Processing and Performance

Lioptal TH 406 has particularly good compatibility with aliphatic hydrocarbons.
Primers based on Lioptal TH 406 have good adhesion to iron and light metals with the choice
of pigments being particularly important. Basic pigments can be incorporated in limited
amounts. For stabilization we recommend addition of small amounts of higher alcohols
and/or glycol ethers.
For drying mixed driers based on cobalt/barium/zirconium have given good results.
Depending on the properties required, the following amounts are recommended: 0.02 –
0.04% cobalt-, 0.15 – 0.2% zirconium-, and 0.06-0.1% barium-metal. In combination with
unplasticised urea or melamine resins Lioptal TH 406 is also suitable for the manufacture of
stove-drying industrial coatings and primers. However, the compatibility must be checked, as
not all aminoplastics are compatible with larger amounts of aliphatic solvents.

Supplied AS

50 and 55 % in a solvent mixture („LG“) consisting of low boiling aliphatic white spirit
(predominantly C9/C10) and light aromatic solvent naphtha in a ratio of 4:1.
These compositions are equivalent to the previous forms of delivery „Lioptal TH 406, 50 % in
K21“ and Lioptal TH 406, 55 % in K21“
