The bark is fibrous in mature trees. Flowers are cream colored and are followed by small woody capsules. The juvenile leaves are ovate (7 cm long) and dull green. Adult leaves are lanceolate and glossy green (to 17 cm). The leaves are intensely aromatic and are used as a bushfood spice. E.olida is classified as a threatened species in the wild, but is becoming more common in cultivation due to itsessential oil and spice qualities. E. olida leaf is also used as a dried spice product in bushfood cooking, especially with fruit and in herbal teas. It has high anti-oxidant activity. Australian Blue Cypress is native to Australia and grows in the Northern Territory (including Melville & Bathurst Islands), northern Western Australia, Cape York and northeast Queensland. It is a medium to large sized tree, from 15 to 45 meters in height. The timber is very aromatic, resistant to termites and splits quite readily into fine chips or kindling for lighting cooking fires. Australian Blue Cypress essential oil is extracted via steam distillation of the stem and branches. The trees are harvested and are then steam distilled for around 48 hours. The harvesting of quite big trees requires heavy machinery and a long distillation process which both add significantly to the cost of the oil. Resinous compounds in the bark react during distillation with other aromatic compounds to create guaiazulene, an anti-inflammatory compound similar to chamazulene that gives the essential oil its dark blue color.

Eucalyptus Kochii, formally known as Eucalyptus Horistes or commonly as Eucalyptus West Australian Mallee, is a species of mallee and is endemic to Western Australia. Eucalyptus Kochii typically grows to a height of 8 m (26 ft), rarely a tree to 12 m (39 ft), and forms a lignotuber. It has rough, flaky or fibrous, light gray to brown bark on the trunk and larger branches, smooth gray to pink bark on the thinner branches. The leaves of the Eucalyptus Kochii have a natural 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol) content of 90 – 95% the highest 1,8-cineole level of all the Eucalyptus’s and there are over 800 species of Eucalyptus’. Conventional or organic available Peppermint Mentha piperita, is a hybrid mint, a cross between watermint and spearmint. The plant, indigenous to Europe and the Middle East, is now widespread in cultivation in many regions of the world. It is found wild occasionally with its parent species. Peppermint was first described in 1753 by Carl Linnaeus from specimens that had been collected in England he treated it as a species, but it is now universally agreed to be a hybrid. It is a herbaceous rhizomatous perennial plant growing to 30–90 cm tall, with smooth stems, square in cross section. The rhizomes are wide-spreading, fleshy, and bare fibrous roots. The leaves are from 4–9 cm long and 1.5–4 cm broad, dark green with reddish veins, and with an acute apex and coarsely toothed margins. The leaves and stems are usually slightly fuzzy. The flowers are purple, 6–8 mm long, with a four-lobed corolla about 5 mm diameter they are produced in whorls (verticillasters) around the stem, forming thick, blunt spikes. Flowering is from mid to late summer. Peppermint is a fast-growing plant once it sprouts, it spreads very quickly.

It has been used for thousands of years, and features prominently in Traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. Cinnamon is derived from a tropical, evergreen tree that can grow over 12 meters tall. Cinnamon oil has a very distinct, fresh aroma and contains primarily cinnamaldehyde and eugenol, which give both varieties their distinct aroma and their antifungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. The leaf oil is easier to produce, as the leaves are easier to distill and extract the oil from and have a higher yield than the bark. Avoid use on sensitive skins. Pregnant women should avoid the use of this oil.

Conventional or organic available A rainforest tree growing to 40 meters, Aniseed (also known as Anise) Myrtle is very rare in the wild, limited to Bellinger and Nambucca Valleys of New South Wales. Anise Myrtle is grown in plantations around northern New South Wales. These plantations were actually planted for the herb or bush tucker markets until the ‘rediscovery’ of its unique essential oil. The trees are harvested and are then steam distilled for around 1 hour. The harvesting is done by unique farm machinery designed by the farmers themselves. Leaves are cut, a vacuum sucks the leaves into a bin and the leaves are placed into a stainless steel boiler. Anise Myrtle is a new oil to the aromatherapy industry and has the potential to supersede traditional Aniseed essential oils on the basis of a superior Anethole content and a superior, fresher Anise aroma. Anise Myrtle essential oil is extracted via steam distillation of the stems and branches.

Cananga (Cananga odorata var macrophylla)is closely related to Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata var genuine). The oils are quite similar, as the plants are from the same genus and species. Cananga has a beautiful but more subtle floral aroma than Ylang Ylang and has a more woody note. They have slightly different chemical compositions. Cananga has higher amounts of beta-caryophyllene. It is a soothing and calming oil. It has a middle/base note. Canaga oil is highly prized in the perfume industry and is a favorite in cosmetic products. The Cananga tree is native to Indonesia, Malaysia and The Philippines. The oil is produced from the steam distillation its yellow flowers. The flowers are picked early in the morning to ensure maximum oil yield.

The blood orange is an intriguing variety of sweet orange that shares the same botanical name, Citrus sinensis. The blood orange is named as such because its fruit segments are blood red in color. Aromatically, both Sweet Orange Essential Oil and Blood Orange Oil are similar. However, Blood Orange Essential Oil is a bit more tantalizing, bright and tart. As the aromatic and therapeutic properties are similar, Blood Orange Essential Oil can be used in place of Sweet Orange Oil in both aromatic and therapeutic blends.
