Used for conjunctival congestion and blurred vision

Cassia Tora seeds are so cold and bitter that it purges the heat and very salty and sweet that it replenishes the yin (fluids of the body). Cassia Tora herb clears the fire from the liver and it also provides nourishment to the kidneys and the liver. Because the liver contains its opening at the eyes and kidneys are corresponded by pupils, the herb is great for improving the eyesight as well as can be utilized for eye ailments of deficiency and excess types. When cassia tora is utilized along with Cape Jasmin Fruit (Fructus Gardeniae) or spica (Spica Prunellae), it acts as a good remedy for healing inflammation of the conjunctiva or conjunctivitis (The inner part of the eyelids are lined by a mucous membrane as well as is continued till the eyeball’s forepart). It can also heal photophobia, intolerance of lights.Cassia Tora is frequently used along with mulberry leaves, chrysanthemum, etc. to cure headache conjunctival congestion caused because of the higher blows of pathogenic wind-heats. The unclear vision because of kidney and liver’s yin deficiency can be cured using cassia tora along with Semen Astragali Complanati or milk vetch.

 

Used for constipation due to dryness of intestine

Dosage and Administration

6 to 12 g, the ingredients should be decocted to drink. If in case they are used to provide relief to constipation, the decoction shouldn’t last long.

Cautions on Use

Those who have a deficiency of qi (energy) with loose stools, should avoid the consumption of this herb.

Aperient, Nucilaginous. Externally anti-parasitic & germicide. They consist of anodyne and maturate action. These are useful in healing skin-related diseases such as psoriasis, snakebite, and leprosy. It can also be used in place of coffee beans as its aroma is similar to coffee and in comparison with coffee, it contains less amount of caffeine.

  • Cassia gum is approved for use in Europe by the Commission Directive (EEC No. E 499) and is listed in the Annex of the Council Directive (70/524/EEC) as a stabilizer (thickening and gelling agent) in the manufacture of canned pet foods (for cats and dogs).
  • It is also approved for use in Japan and is listed as a food additive in The Ministry of Health and Welfare Announcement No. 160 (10 August 1995).
