Hexamethyldisilazane (also known as Bis(trimethylsilyl)amine, or HMDS) is an organosilicon compound with the molecular formula [(CH3)3Si]2NH. The molecule is a derivative of ammonia with trimethylsilyl groups in place of two hydrogen atoms. This colorless liquid is a reagent and a precursor to bases that are popular in organic synthesis and organometallic chemistry.

Agent for special organic synthesis. An important silylating agent (introduction of the tri-methylsilyl group) in the manufacturing of manufactures of pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals. It is also used as a surface treatment agent for clays and diatomaceous earth, silica and titanium powder; as well as an adhesion aid for photoresist agents in the semiconductor industry.
