Aegis™ is an insect growth regulator (IGR) that can be incorporated into the mushroom compost or casing to stop the development of sciarid fly larvae and prevents damage to mushrooms and mycelium growth. Maximum benefits from Aegis™ can be expected when it is incorporated into a pest management program that includes good cultural practices to help maintain control of sciarid flies.

Application to Compost

Apply AegisTM when preparing the mushroom substrate using a coarse drenching spray with low pressure to minimize the formation of mists. Apply in sufficient water for uniform distribution to the compost according to the rates in the following table. These rates result in a concentration of 5 parts per million (ppm) of active ingredient. Thoroughly incorporate with a spawning machine or similar equipment. These rates result in a concentration of 5 parts per million (ppm) of active ingredient in the compost on a wet weight basis (equal to 15 ppm on a dry weight basis).

Compost Fill Wet Weight (67% moisture) lbs./sq. ft Compost Fill Dry Weight lbs./sq. ft. Rate of Aegis™ fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft
12 4 19
14 4.5 22
15 5 24
17 5.5 26
18 6 28
20 6.5 31
21 7 33
23 7.5 35
24 8 38
26 8.5 40
27 9 43

Example: If applying AegisTM to a wet compost bed weighing 15 lbs./sq. ft., use 24 fl. oz of AegisTM per 1,000 sq. ft. Rates can also be figured using dry weight of the compost.

Application to Casing

Aegis™ can be applied as a single low-volume drench spray to the casing material. Apply at 14 or more days after the compost application at a rate of 5 ppm (3.0 fl oz/ton) to the casing material. Do not make more than two applications of Aegis™ during a mushroom production cycle (one to the compost followed by one to the casing). Do not apply to the casing within 14 days of harvest.

Storage & Handling

Storage and Disposal

Do not contaminate water, food, or feed by storage or disposal, or cleaning of equipment.

PESTICIDE STORAGE: Store at temperatures above 32°F. Crystals may form at lower temperatures. If this occurs, place the product in a warm room (72°F or above) and shake the container at frequent intervals until all crystals have dissolved. Since this formulation contains water, it can also freeze solid at temperatures below 32°F. However, when reconstituted and crystals re-dissolve, product performance is not affected.

PESTICIDE DISPOSAL: Improper disposal of unused pesticide, spray mixture, or rinsates is a violation of Federal law. Pesticide, spray mixture, or rinsates that cannot be used according to label instructions, must be disposed of according to Federal, state, or local procedures. For guidance in proper disposal methods, contact your State Pesticide or Environmental Control Agency, or the Hazardous Waste representative at the nearest EPA Regional Office.

CONTAINER DISPOSAL: Non-refillable container. Do not reuse or refill this container. Triple rinse (or equivalent) promptly after emptying. Triple rinse as follows: Empty the remaining contents into application equipment or mix tank. Drain for 10 seconds after the flow begins to drip. Fill the container 1/4 full with water and recap. Shake for 10 seconds. Pour rinsate into application equipment or a mix tank or store rinsate for later use and disposal. Drain for 10 seconds after the flow begins to drip. Repeat this procedure two more times. Then offer for recycling if available or puncture and dispose of in a sanitary landfill, or by incineration, or if allowed by state and local authorities, by burning. If burned, stay out of smoke. For minor spills, leaks, etc., follow all precautions indicated on this label and clean up immediately. Take special care to avoid contamination of equipment and facilities during cleanup procedures and disposal of wastes.
