Sucrabase C is a thick oily gel which immediately turns into a thin emulsion on addition of water. It can be used to create a number of different formulations by simply stirring in other ingredients at room temperature.

Product Background

Sucrabases are 100% natural, versatile cosmetic oily gel bases Sucrabase is a stable micro-emulsion made with Sucragel and a single oil When water is added the oily gel changes into a cream or a light lotion. These bases enable easy formulation of a wide variety of finished products and textures in just a few easy steps without the need for any heat or complicated equipment.

Addition Of Oil Based Ingredients

Oils can be added at a level of up to of the Sucrabase: e.g. 80g Sucrabase can take an additional 4g oil Simply stir the oils gradually into the gel until they are all incorporated. Vegetable oils, Esters, Silicones, Butters and Waxes, Essential oils, Fragrance oils and oil based active s The oil must be added as the first step of your formulation before any other ingredients are added.

Addition Of Water & Water Soluble Materials

The addition of water, water soluble actives or water gels will cause the oily gels to instantly emulsify (form a cloudy/white solution)

  • If more than 10% water is added it is recommended to add a water thickener.
  • Carbomer gels, Sucrathix gels etc. can also be added at this stage which will provide the viscosity to the final product.

Addition of Other Ingredients

Addition of Glycerine:

Glycerine can be added after the addition of oils. Glycerine thins down the gel to give a honey-like texture without effecting the clarity of the gel. Recommended amount: 5% to up to 25%.

Powders:

Talc, Kaolin and plant powders can be added at the end to change both the texture and color of the product. To avoid lumps, premix with a small amount of glycerine or Sucrabase first and then add into the bulk. Recommended amount: 5-15%.

Exfoliators:

Scrub particles such as sugar, salt, nut kernels, silica, bamboo and jojoba beads can be stirred in at the end to make an exfoliating based product. Recommended amount: 1-25%.

Preservatives and fragrance:

These can be added in at the end however any formulations without water do not require a preservative.

Formulation Guidelines
  • Use at room temperature
  • Formulation must remain between pH 4-8 at all times
  • Oils can be added at a level of up to 5% by weight of the Sucrabase
  •  Glycerine can be added up to 25% to provide a ‘honey like’ texture
  • Powders/exfoliating particles can be added to change the color/texture
  • Water, water gels or water based extracts will emulsify the gel and form an emulsion.

Sucrabase C has a 2 year shelf life. The product should be re-analyzed after a 2 year storage period under recommended storage conditions.
