- Mode Of Action
The most dangerous consequence of UV influence on the skin is damage to the cellular DNA. Modifications of the carriers of genetic information may lead to various effects, such as disorder of cell functions causing accelerated skin aging formation of senile spots due to local changes of pigmentation transformation from cells to a precancerous stage implying the risk of development of skin carcinoma. Each cell has an own enzymatic repair system to prevent these consequences, which however, loses efficiency during the aging process. Besides, excessive damage due to sunburns may occur, which exceed the capacity of the repair system. For this reason, active ingredients that are able to stimulate the cell-endogenous natural DNA repair system are of supreme importance. These ingredients offer the opportunity to prevent light-induced premature skin aging and chronic photo damage.
Repair Complex CLR was the first and at that time patented cosmetic active ingredient, which was proved to prevent DNA damage. Repair Complex CLR increases the repair rate of UVirradiated keratinocytes and of living skin. Furthermore, Repair Complex CLR counteracts nonrepairable DNA damage.
- Recommended Uses
- Repair Complex CLR PF serves in cosmetic skin care preparations as aid in the prevention of light caused damage within the epidermal and dermal cell region.
- By the use of Repair Complex CLR PF in sun screen or day care preparations, the cell damaging effects of the light influence, and thus premature skin aging, can be counteracted.
- Repair Complex CLR PF can be used in emulsified, aqueous and aqueous-alcoholic skin regenerating and sun preparations.
- Processing
Repair Complex CLR PF is thermal stable and can be heated to about 50 °C for a short period of time. The cosmetics should have a pH value between 3.8 and 7.
Repair Complex CLR PF establishes a sediment consisting of cell wall components in the course of its storage and should be homogenized before processing. Repair Complex CLR PF does not affect the color of cosmetic preparations.

Technical Details & Test Data
- Physiological Tolerance
The toxicological results listed below were obtained in compatibility tests conducted with the product “Repair Complex CLR” which differs from "Repair Complex CLR PF " only by the preservative system used (0.4 % Phenonip).
Acute oral toxicity
LD50 oral: > 20 ml per kg body weight (rat).
Repair Complex CLR is hence to be designated as non-toxic.
Eye irritation potential
Repair Complex CLR has undergone the Draize test in a 10 %, aqueous dilution. There is no objection to the application of Repair Complex CLR in the vicinity of the eyes.
Skin tolerance
An epicutaneous test on human beings with an O/W cream containing 10 % Repair Complex CLR revealed no indications as to intolerance reactions.
Mutagenicity tests
According to Ames:
Repair Complex CLR showed no mutagenic action on 5 strains Salmonella typhimurium.According to Mohn:
Repair Complex CLR showed in the E. coli test with and without metabolic activation (determination of the forward as well as back mutations) no mutagenic effect.
