Features & Benefits

Product Background

The BRIJ SERIES of surfactants are polyoxyethylene vegetable-based fatty ethers derived from lauryl, cetyl, stearyl and oleyl alcohols. BRIJ surfactants are stable to acids and alkalies beyond the pH range that ester type emulsifiers can withstand. Hence, the BRIJ SERIES are useful for emulsifying fats and oils in highly acidic or alkaline media. The series contains both hydrophilic and lipophilic products. Depending on the HLB, BRIJ surfactants can be used to form either oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions or water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions, solubilize oils and improve wetting. These products are widely used in personal care, fiber finish and HI&I cleaning, crop protection, paints and coatings, adhesives and other industrial applications.

Compatibility and chemical stability make the EBrij series useful formulating aids in laundry liquid and powder detergents and conditioning agents. Utilized in the textile processing industry, the Brij products are effective at all temperatures below cloud point and impart lubricity and antistatic properties to the finish. Textile oils and fiber finish agents can be emulsified by products of the Brij L, O and CS grades

Solubility and solubilisation

Solubility and solubilisation The water solubility of members in each series increases with the degree of ethoxylation. Thus, the higher ethoxylatæ such as Brij 020, C20, CS20 and S20 are soluble in water and insoluble in mineral oil and other non-polar solvents. The lower ethoxylates such as Brij L4, 02 and S2 are soluble in mineral oil and other non- polar solvents, but are insoluble in water.
