- Broad Botanical Compatibility
Broad compatibility with our extensive Crodarom range of plant extracts makes strong emotive claims on mildness or skin care simple and easy. Popular botanical additives include:
Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis) popular for its skin moisturizing and calming properties.
Camomile (Matricaria chamomilla) with its well documented anti-irritancy properties.
- ECO Range
The new 100% bio-based ECO Range is the widest range of 100% renewable surfactants on the market. By using an alternative route to EO with bioethanol from biomass sources, it significantly increases the bio-based content of ethoxylated products and reduces reliance on fossil fuels. Moreover, the ingredients are manufactured with renewable energy.

- Processing Notes
Cirrasol Care has a number of features to provide easy processing and application:
- Low viscosity, easily pumped
- Readily forms an emulsion with stirring in water
- Cold processable
- Promotes good fiber-fiber cohesion and fiber-metal friction control
- Contributes to control of static generation
Our recommended processing technique is to make up an emulsion in water of around 10% with stirring. This emulsion can then be applied to the nonwoven by your chosen method, including spray, kiss roll or immersion. We do not recommend long term storage of emulsions and stirring should be maintained to promote a good emulsion.

Technical Details & Test Data
- Independent Testing on an Adult Incontinence Hygiene Product
Cirrasol Care was evaluated by an independent test house using an adult incontinence structure. Cirrasol Care was compared to two leading competitor finishes and two commercially available disposable adult incontinence pad products. Testing was carried out using the model light to medium absorbency adult incontinence product outlined in Figure 1 based on market analysis of commercially available products.
Figure 1 – Representation of the composition of the model adult incontinence structure.
Top Layer: in contact with skin, must allow liquid through quickly
Acquisition Distribution Layer (ADL): spreads liquid laterally Core Wrap and Absorbent
Core: absorbent cellulose fiber and/or super absorbent polymer to hold liquid in place
Back Sheet: non-permeable polyethylene film to prevent leakage
On the model structure, the top sheet material was treated with the emulsions listed in Table 1 using a laboratory-scale applicator. This included Croda’s Cirrasol Care plus two industry leading competitor finishes. The testing was also carried out on topsheets of two commercially available market leading products for adult incontinence. In these instances, the commercial products were carefully deconstructed, and the top sheet applied to the test structure. Both the liquid ingress (strike through) and rewet performance were tested according to a modified version EDANA Standard Procedure: NWSP 070.9R1 using the model adult incontinence pad (Figure 1).

- Rewet Rates on Adult Incontinence Hygiene Product
Rewet values were assessed according to adult incontinence liquid volumes and results were determined gravimetrically. Samples were left for 10 minutes before 8 x Whatman no. 41 filter papers and a 3.6 kg weight were placed on top of the sample for a period of one minute. After this time the wet filter papers were weighed. The change in weight between the dry and wet filter papers was recorded as the rewet measurement (Figure 2).
Figure 2 – Average rewet values for Cirrasol Care, competitor and commercial products.
Cirrasol Care demonstrates outstanding rewet performance, offering more than 65% lower rewet results than the nearest competitor, and significant improvements over the commercial products.
- Strike Through Rates on Adult Incontinence Hygiene Product
The strike through rates were tested by timing the ingress of 20 ml of synthetic urine three times, with a one-minute pause in between each insult.
Results in Figure 3 show Cirrasol Care to have competitive performance against industry leading finishes and commercial products in the initial insult and consistent performance with the repeated wetting insults. By assessing the liquid ingress values with three repetitions of insults, an indication is given as to the durability of the finish on the top sheet i.e. the extent to which the finish is removed from the top sheet during the initial insult. Cirrasol Care showed good durability with good strike through rates for both the second and third insults.
Figure 3 – Repeated wetting over 3 insults shows high performance strikethrough rates against leading competitors and finished products.
Cirrasol Care demonstrates excellent strike through performance, consistent with competitor products in its class along with outstanding durability, showing improved performance over commercial products.
- Overall Strike Through and Rewet Performance
In the experiments carried out by the external test house, all finishes have an initial strike through value between 2 – 3 seconds, with Cirrasol Care demonstrating excellent rewet values. Figure 4 also depicts the average strike through rate over three insults in the size of the bubbles. Average strike through rate has been calculated over three insults (initial, plus two repeated insults) and then normalized for visual comparison.
Figure 4 – Initial strike through time vs. rewet. Bubble size represents the average strike through time across three insults. Figure 4 demonstrates that the exceptional rewet performance of Cirrasol Care does not compromise either initial or repeat strike through characteristics of the product. Cirrasol Care has demonstrated best-in-test rewet performance while maintaining competitive strike through and durability.
- Performance in EDANA Standard Testing for Infant Hygiene
Table 2 shows the excellent performance of Cirrasol Care across both EDANA standard methods, as well as stringent internal dry migration testing. The test reference for each of the methods and number of filter papers used is also shown. The testing was carried out using treat rates of 0.1%, 0.3% and 0.5%.

- Product Stability and Aging Resistance
A series of tests have been used to demonstrate the stability of Cirrasol Care. Two samples were coated with 0.4% Cirrasol Care, one sample was kept at 40°C for 3 months and the other was tested immediately. The testing carried out was using the EDANA standard methods previously mentioned.
Test Number Test Measurement 1 to 3 Repeat strike through Seconds 4 Initial strike through Seconds 5 Rewet Grams 6 to 8 Run-off Grams Figure 5 – Performance data for stability testing carried out on Cirrasol Care
The results in Figure 5 show that there is excellent product stability and there is very little effect on the long-term performance of Cirrasol Care. This is indicative of a long shelf life and excellent performance consistency over time.
Safety & Health
- Proven Mildness and Skin Safety
Croda has carried out and commissioned extensive studies on the skin safety of Cirrasol Care. Cytotoxicity testing shows that Cirrasol Care is safe for skin contact when used in absorbent hygiene product coverstock applications. Cirrasol Care is also biodegradable, non-hazardous and is silicone-free.
