Softening
The softening performance of Cirrasol ST Ultra has been assessed by an independent test house. In the tests, Cirrasol ST Ultra was compared with a frame formulati on blank and also a commercial 2-in-1 product. The tests were carried out at 40°C in a domestic washing machine using both cotton terry cloth and standard cotton fabric.
Softening performance was assessed after 1, 4 and 8 wash cycles using a paired comparison test with 25 panelists. A score of 16 or greater in these tests r epresents a statistically significant softening benefit (represented by the purple line in the figures below). The test showed that even after just a single wash, there is a perceivable softening benefit when using Cirr asol ST Ultra at an inclusion level of 2%.

Detergency
Detergency It is widely recognized that fabric softeners can often have a detrimental effect of the cleaning performance of detergents. The effect of Cirrasol ST Ultra on detergency has been measured against a range of standard household stains in our frame formulation. Fabric samples were washed at 40°C and the level of stain removal measured via reflectometer.
The data shown in figure 3 shows that Cirrasol ST Ultra does not diminish the cleaning power of the formulation.

Rewettability
The wicking/wetting performance of garments such as towels is crucial to maintaining the drying performance of the towel. It is known that softening agents can often reduce the ability of fabrics to wick and so the effect of Cirrasol ST Ultra on this performance parameter has been measured.
Towel samples were washed either with the frame formulation or frame formulation + Cirrasol ST ultra and the water absorbance determined by wicking height measurement.
As the results in figure 4 show, this test demonstrated that Cirrasol ST Ultra has no effect on the rewettability of fabrics.

Graying
Over time and with repeated use, softening additives can often lead to premature graying of garments as the additive begins to build up on the surface of the fabric.
A range of garments were washed 20 times with either the frame formulation or frame formulation + Cirrasol ST Ultra and the change in color measured. The results of this test showed that Cirrasol ST Ultra does not lead to the premature graying of fabrics.

Since consumers often pre-treat stains on fabrics with the laundry detergent prior to washing, the effect of this on the fabric was assessed.
Two ml of the frame formulation containing 2.5% Cirrasol ST Ultra was dosed onto a garment and left to soak for 45 minutes. The garment was then washed at 40°C using the same detergent, dried and the color change assessed.
No color change could be detected therefore Cirrasol ST Ultra does not cause fading, staining or any other color change in use.
