Coltide™ H (Wheat)

1 of 9 products in this brand
Coltide™ H (Wheat) is a hydrolyzed wheat derivative that acts as an effective moisturizing agent due to hydrophilic groups that attract and bind water to the treated surface. It is substantive and able to provide moisture regulation and conditioning properties in both skin and fabric care applications.

Performance Characteristics
Skin moisturisation - Skin elasticity and recovery study

An in vivo study showed that Coltide H applied from a tissue increases the immediate extensibility of the stratum corneum, reflecting an increase in the moisture content of the skin. Skin extensibility is an indication of the ease of elastic deformation of the skin when a torque is applied and has been shown to be proportional to its moisture content.

In the study Coltide H was tested at 1% active using the Dermal Torque Meter to determine its effect on the moisture content of human skin when applied from a tissue medium. The study was performed on human volunteers over a five-day period. Differences in % immediate extensibility between test and control for defined sites were averaged over time to produce a mean percentage change.

The results, depicted in figure 1, show that the inclusion of 1% active Coltide H significantly increases both skin extensibility ( 4%) and therefore skin moisture levels, due to the moisture retention properties of Coltide H. Statistical significance was demonstrated at a level of P<0.1.

Croda Coltide H (Wheat) Performance Characteristics

Fibre care

Fiber protection and repair are relatively new claims for carpet and upholstery care. Croda's Coltide Naturals range of hydrolysed and functionalised proteins have been proven to provide effective conditioning of natural fibers such as cotton, linen and silk thereby reducing fiber erosion and degradation. The Coltide Naturals range are moisture retentive, with the low molecular weight variants enabling penetration of fibers to reduce brittleness. Coltides are stable over a wide pH range and are compatible with anionic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants. Coltide Naturals offer excellent label claims and marketing potential

Summary

Hydrolysed proteins from natural sources used as skin smoothing and conditioning agents.

Coltide peptides for Tissue Paper

Coltide peptides are ideal for tissue products. In formulated systems these speciality materials enhance product performance and marketability with value-added benefits:

  • Enhanced skin softening
  • Skin moisturisation, emolliency and conditioning
  • Proven improvement in skin's moisture retention abilities
  • Substantive
  • Low molecular weight allows penetration of stratum corneum
  • Excellent label claims

Coltide™ H

Coltide H is a hydrolysed wheat derivative, which acts as effective moisturizer due to its hydrophilic groups that attract and bind water within the skin. It is substantive, and able to condition both skin and tissue fibers. When applied to the skin from tissue it imparts benefits such as moisturisation, protection, enhanced feel and soothing effects. As a wheat protein derivative Coltide H is widely used in personal care skin care products for its moisturizing abilities.

Coltide peptides for Wet Wipes

Coltide™ H is a vegetable-derived protein that has been statistically proven to increase the
extensibility of the skin when applied in a liquid detergent system. Skin extensibility is
closely related to moisturisation. The product has a natural substantivity to the skin, and is
extremely effective at binding moisture.

Applications & Uses

Formulation guidelines

Coltide Naturals form clear solutions at all concentrations when diluted with water and are easily formulated into cleaning products and fabric softeners/detergents. They are compatible with all common anionic, non-ionic, cationic and amphoteric detergents and conditioners. They are stable between pH 4 and pH 10 and will withstand heating up to a temperature of 80°C. Recommended inclusion levels are 0.5-2.0% as supplied depending on the desired effect.

Applications
  • Fabric capsules (pods)
  • Fabric detergents
  • Fabric conditioners
  • Auxiliary fabric products
Applications

Coltides are ideal for inclusion in fabric care products. However, their primary application is in fabric softeners and detergents. Optimum performance can be achieved with levels as low as 1% as supplied.

  • Fabric conditioners/softeners
  • Laundry detergents - suitable for liquids, powders and tablets
  • Fine and delicate wash concentrates
  • Woolens treatments

Substantivity and moisture retention

Coltide Naturals are highly substantive materials which are readily adsorbed onto and absorbed into negatively charged substrates such as cotton, cashmere, silk etc. They are substantive not only from aqueous solutions but also from conditioners and detergents. The excellent moisture retention properties of the substantive amino acids in Coltide Naturals impart a deep conditioning effect to fabrics, improving the softness and handling characteristics.

Liquid soaps
In addition to household use, liquid hand soaps can be used in washrooms when dispensers make them more hygienic and less wasteful than soap bars. Crodasinic LS30 (sodium lauroyl sarcosinate), a mild anionic surfactant with counter-irritancy properties, is recommended to reduce the irritation of commodity anionic surfactants. Skin conditioners and moisturizers, such as Solan E or Coltide, can be used to increase the skin care properties of such systems. Solan EIE50 in particular are gentle cleansing agents which do not defat the skin and have been shown to reduce the harsh defatting effects of detergent/solvent cleaning systems without impairing foaming .
