ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES
DAELIM Polybutene is hydrophobic and non-conductive, so it has excellent electrical insulating properties.
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
DAELIM Polybutene is a chemically stable material with excellent oxidation stability against light, UV radiation and air. It is not easily oxidized under ambient conditions.
Oxidation Stability
DAELIM Polybutene is a nonpolar hydrocarbon polymer that is generally soluble in nonpolar solvents and insoluble in polar solvents. Generally, it is well soluble with aliphatic/aromatic/chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents.
DAELIM Polybutene has excellent compatibility with waxes, polyisobutylene rubber, low viscosity oil (aromatic/paraffinic/naphthenic), aliphatic hydrocarbon resins and etc.
Solubility & Compatibility
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
DAELIM Polybutene has a wide range of kinematic viscosity from 5 to 4,900cSt at 100˚C. The viscosity of the product depends on the temperature and the molecular weight. As the molecular weight increases and the temperature decreases, the viscosity increases. The desired viscosity can be obtained by blending grades with different viscosities.
Viscosity
DAELIM Polybutene has various grades with number average molecular weight (Mn) ranging from 300 to 2,500.
Molecular Weights
DAELIM Polybutene is colorless (water-white) and has great color stability. APHA Color (Pt/Co scale) is less than 50 and its color stability is better than conventional mineral oil with same APHA Color.
Color
The specific gravity of DAELIM Polybutene varies with molecular weight and temperature. The specific gravity increases with increasing molecular weight and decreases with increasing temperature.
Specific
Gravity
DAELIM Polybutene has its own tackiness and its tackiness increases as the molecular weight increases.
Tackiness
Thermal properties
The specific heat of DAELIM Polybutene increases with temperature and increasing molecular weight at the same temperature.

Applications & Uses

Plastics & Elastomers End Uses
Applications

DAELIM Polybutene is used as a raw material for dispersant which is a lubricant (engine oil) additive that disperses sediments to prevent the formation of sludge.
LOA
(Lubricant Oil Additives)
DAELIM Polybutene is used as a raw material for detergent which is a gasoline/diesel fuel additive to control deposits and to remove the deposit particles in carburetors, fuel injectors and etc.
FA (Fuel Additives)
DAELIM Polybutene has a high viscosity index(VI), thickening power, lubricity, excellent shear stability and the characteristic that no carbon residues remain after depolymerization. Based on these characteristics, DAELIM polybutene is used as a viscosity modifier (viscosity index improver), thickener and high viscosity base oil in the formulation of various finished lubricants such as two-stroke engine oils, automotive/industrial gear oils, hydraulic fluids, metalworking fluids, compressor oils and greases.
Lubricants
DAELIM Polybutene is used as a raw material for emulsifier which is a component of emulsion explosives for mining.
Explosive Emulsifiers
DAELIM Polybutene can be used as a substitute for bright stock, a high viscosity base oil used to adjust viscosity in various finished lubricant formulations. DAELIM Polybutene has brighter colors and higher viscosity index than conventional bright stock.
Bright Stock Substitute

Adhesives
DAELIM Polybutene is widely used for various types of adhesives such as PSA (Pressure sensitive adhesive) for adhesive tape and HMA (Hot melt adhesive) for packaging or sanitary products (diapers). Used as a tackifier and plasticizer, it improves the properties and performance of adhesives.
Sealants
DAELIM Polybutene is used in various sealant formulations such as construction and automotive sealants. It imparts plasticity and tackiness and improves the properties of elastomers such as low-temperature fluidity.
Sealant
DAELIM Polybutene with good barrier property (low gas permeability) and tackiness is used as a raw material of tire sealant which is applied to self-sealing (sealant) tire for safe driving when tire puncture.
Stretch Wrap Films
DAELIM Polybutene is used as a tackifier for tackified LLDPE-based film which is mainly used for stretch wrap and silage wrap film. DAELIM polybutene is injected directly in liquid form in the film manufacturing process or used as a raw material for cling masterbatch.
Electrical Insulating Materials
DAELIM Polybutene, which has excellent electrical insulation properties, is used in various electrical applications such as insulating oil and cable jelly compound.
Others
Polymer, Rubber and Asphalt Modifiers
DAELIM Polybutene is used as a modifier to improve the properties of polymer (resin), rubber and asphalt. DAELIM Polybutene improves the impact strength and flexibility of thermoplastic resins and is used as a plasticizer in rubber compounding. It also provides tackiness, water-resistance and low-temperature flexibility for road and building asphalt products.
Personal Care
DAELIM polybutene, which is colorless and non-toxic, is used as a raw material for personal care products such as body oil and cosmetics such as lip gloss.
Fly & Rat Traps
DAELIM Polybutene, which has tackiness, is used as a raw material for sticky traps that capture insect pests and rodents such as flies and rats.
Gum Base
DAELIM Polybutene is used as one of the raw materials of gum base, a food additive that provides appropriate viscosity and elasticity to the gum.
