Features & Benefits

Features

GroGel Plus and GroGel Plus B (with probiotic bacteria) are hatchling supplements that contain a super-hydrating gel plus nutrients that, after mixing with water, can be given to hatchlings either:

  • In the shipping boxes, to provide water and nutrients during the trip
  • After arrival, to reduce dehydration and provide nutrients, attract them to the feed and get them off to a good start.

Features that make GroGel Plus a real standout product include:

  • Storage and shipping: GroGel Plus comes as a dry powder, so it is very stable, easy to store and inexpensive to ship. No refrigeration or preservatives are required.
  • Mixing and preparation: All you need is cold water and a container. And it usually takes only 2-3 minutes to jell. No hot water or slicing is required. Any sized batch is possible; from 100-dose packs to large scale semi-automatic hatchery dispensers.
  • Versatility: Other ingredients (like beneficial bacteria, or vaccines), can be added to the dry powder, or to the water before mixing.
  • Administration: At the hatchery or on the farm. A single scoop in each quadrant of the shipping boxes or a larger scoop on a feed flat on the farm. It won't be scattered or lost in the boxes before it can be eaten.
  • High water content: 90% + water means that chicks get the hydration that they need.
  • Consumption rate: Research indicates that almost all chicks get some. GroGel Plus is usually eaten quickly with very little waste. Because it is shiny, green and tastes good, hatchlings really go for it. There are no bad tasting preservatives.

For hatchlings to start off well they need prompt access to water and feed. The earlier access promotes more rapid development of the digestive tract and the immune system. In turn this results in improved livability and as much as 5% to 7% heavier bodyweights.

Applications & Uses

Application Instructions
  • Just add water, stir for a few seconds until it starts to firm up, and then give it to the birds.
  • The instructions on the packages are correct for standard sized chickens, turkeys, and domestic ducks.
  • Pheasants, Chukar ior Wild Type Mallardsare smaller, and eat less, so the same package will be enough for twice as many. In other words, a 100-dose pack is enough for 200 pheasants or Chukar or Mallard ducklings.
  • For Quail: Because quail are even smaller and eat less, the 100-dose pack is enough for 4 times what the package suggests. In other words, what we call a 100-dose package mixed in 1⁄2 to 1 cup of water will actually be enough for 400 quail chicks.

For larger packages of GroGel Plus use the following:

  • 70 grams - for 1,000 standard doses mixed in 1-2 quarts of water (remember this is chicken or turkey doses). That is enough for 2,000 pheasants or 4,000 quail.
  • 7 grams - for 100 standard doses mixed in 1⁄2 to 1 cup of water (remember this is chicken or turkey doses). That is enough for 200 pheasants or 400 quail.
  • Remember to multiply by 2 or 4, depending on whether you have quail, pheasants, etc.

Nutritional Information

In a soft palatable gel, GroGel Plus supplies crucial nutrients in the most concentrated, digestible forms:

  • Water- is the largest single component of the hatchling’s body. Normally it is depleted during hatch and transport. Dehydration can lead to increased mortality, loss of bodyweight that is never completely recovered, slower gain and depressed immune response. GroGel Plus supplies a substantial amount of water, giving birds a better chance.
  • Probiotic Bacteria- in DPP help establish normal gut populations. These poultry-specific bacteria are specially selected and proven for colonizing ability, competitive exclusion, storage stability, and their beneficial effects on bird performance and health.
  • Proteins, Peptides, and Amino Acids-are the main “building blocks” of most body tissues. GroGel Plus contains processed, complete proteins purified from several sources to supply a balance of peptides and amino acids. A portion of these purified proteins is also provided in partially digested form, to facilitate absorption.
  • Carbohydrates-are the primary energy source in all poultry diets. The grains selected for GroGel Plus are processed to reduce fiber and other poorly digested fractions, and to improve the digestibility and concentration.
  • Fats-supply energy, and become parts of membrane and nerve tissue. They must be very digestible due to limited enzyme and bile production in very young birds. The fats in GroGel Plus provide high levels of essential fatty acids in digestible form and are specially processed to be water-dispersible.
  • Vitamins- are the catalysts that facilitate the work of all digestive, growth and immune processes. One dose of GroGel Plus exceeds all necessary vitamins for day-old hatchling. Additional consideration is given to those vitamins most effective at fighting stress and improving immune function.
  • Super Hydrating Gel-provides the framework to carry the nutrients in GroGel Plus. Designed to attract the attention of hatchlings, the gel promotes immediate consumption and delivery of nutrients and probiotics.

Packaging & Availability

Packaging Type
Packaging

We sell packages of 100 doses, or 2,000 or 5,000 or 10,000 doses (1 chick or turkey poult = 1 dose). For pheasant or quail chicks use 1/2 or 1/4 as much. For small batches it is just mixed up in a bucket and scooped out with a spoon. Or in the hatchery small amounts can be squeezed out of a plastic bag similarly to cake icing.
