DOWANOL™ DPnB Glycol Ether

Applications: Coatings & Finishes, Building Envelope, Chemical & Industrial Manufacturing

Product Families: Additives, Solvents & Carriers, Functional Additives

Chemical Family: Diols, Glycols, Ethers

End Uses: Solventborne Coating, Waterborne Coating, Cleaners

DOWANOL™ DPnB glycol ether is a slow-evaporating, hydrophobic glycol ether with excellent surface tension-lowering ability and coalescing properties. DOWANOL™ DPnB is a relatively slow-evaporating solvent which is one of our most efficient coalescents in water-borne latex systems. DOWANOL™ DPnB glycol ether combines a number of properties that contribute to very high latex film quality: 1) high polymer plasticizing efficiency, 2) large molecular size and therefore greater polymer mobility contribution, 3) strong partitioning to the polymer phase, and 4) relatively slow evaporation rate. This product is compatible with many different resin types. DOWANOL™ DPnB glycol ether also provides excellent surface tension lowering ability, and is useful in cleaning products by itself or when blended with other products such as DOWANOL™ DPM glycol ether. Used alone in cold metal cleaning, DOWANOL™ DPnB glycol ether is a good solvent for removing oils and greases.

Dowanol™ Pma Glycol Ether Acetate product card banner

Dow North America

DOWANOL™ PMA Glycol Ether Acetate

Applications: Coatings & Finishes, Devices & Assemblies, Parts & Components

Product Families: Solvents & Carriers, Esters & Ethers, Solvents

Chemical Family: Acetates, Esters, Glycols

End Uses: Coil Coating, Powder Coating, Solventborne Coating

DOWANOL™ PMA glycol ether has the lowest viscosity of the entire line of DOWANOL™ glycol ethers (1.1 centipoise at 25oC), and it provides superb viscosity reduction. The remaining OH group in the glycol ether molecule is capped with an acetate group, which reduces its polarity and reduces the solvent’s viscosity. The acetate group also eliminates the reactive hydrogen from the OH group found in other glycol ethers; thus, DOWANOL™ PMA glycol ether is an excellent solvent choice for urethanes and other proton-sensitive systems. DOWANOL™ PMA glycol ether is a relatively fast-evaporating glycol ether, and it sets a performance standard in high-solids, solvent-borne systems. It provides excellent active solvency for a very wide range of resin types, including acrylics, epoxies, alkyds, polyesters and many other.

Dow North America Monoethanolamine (Mea) product card banner

Dow North America

Dow North America Monoethanolamine (MEA)

INCI Name: Ethanolamine

Applications: Chemical & Industrial Manufacturing, Textiles & Nonwovens, Fluids & Lubricants

Product Families: Additives, Functional Additives, Performance Additives

Chemical Family: Alcohols, Amines

End Uses: Metalworking Fluids, Cleaners, Detergents

DOW Monoethanolamine (MEA) offers abroad spectrum of application opportunities, primarily in detergents, textile finishing and wood treating. Other applications include use as “down hole” in oil well chemicals and in metal working to prevent corrosion, and as catalysts that promote stability during the reaction process in the manufacture of flexible and rigid urethane foams. Because MEA combines the properties of amines and alcohols, MEA exhibits the unique capability of undergoing reactions common to both groups. As an amine, MEA is mildly alkaline and react with acids to form salts or soaps. As an alcohol, MEA is hygroscopic and can be esterfied. Features & Benefits Detergents MEA imparts a reserve alkalinity to the laundry bath, which is essential to efficient cleaning. MEA is an effective oil and anti-redeposition agent. Textile Finishing MEA is used as reaction intermediates for the preparation of durable press fabric finishes and softeners. When reacted to form amine soaps, useful as scouring agents for wool and silk because of its low alkalinity. Because it is hygroscopic, MEA is used in the preparation of vat printing pastes. Wood Treating MEA is used in both alkaline copper quaternary(ACQ) and copper azole formulations for treating wood to improve its resistance to pests and decay. Both are arsenic-free alternatives to the phased- out CCA formulations.

DOWANOL™ DPM Glycol Ether

Applications: Coatings & Finishes, Building Envelope, Flooring & Surfaces

Product Families: Additives, Solvents & Carriers, Functional Additives

Chemical Family: Glycols, Ethers, Glycol Ethers

End Uses: Solventborne Coating, Waterborne Coating, Flexography Ink

DOWANOL™ DPM glycol ether is a mid-to slow evaporating solvent. This hydrophilic solvent has 100% water solubility and is ideally suited as a coupling agent in a wide range of solvent systems. DOWANOL™ DPM glycol ether has a higher flash point than DOWANOL™ PM glycol ether making it easier to handle, store, and ship. Often incorporated into latex emulsion coatings DOWANOL™ DPM glycol ether can be used to prevent shocking (coagulation of emulsion) when hydrophobic solvents are used. More broadly, its hydrophilic nature makes it an ideal coupling aid in water reducible coatings, and cleaning applications. DOWANOL™ DPM glycol ether’s intermediate evaporation rate allow it to be used in a potentially wider range of systems than many other solvents.
