THIXON® 715-EF&B Features & Benefits
Applications & Uses
Preliminary surface treatment
The best treatment for the metal surface consists of gritblasting (grit of 0.3 to
0.4 mm in size) or sandblasting with corundum (120 mesh), preceded and
followed by vapor degreasing in Trichloroethylene.
It is recommended that non ferrous metals are blasted with a non ferrous grit
eg Aluminum Oxide.
An appropriate chemical treatment for the metallic surface can also be used.
For plastic surfaces there are specific chemical or mechanical treatments
which should be applied as is appropriate.
Application of THIXON® 715
Mix 100 parts by weight of 715-EF with 3 parts by weight of 715 B. The mixture
obtained after complete dissolution of part B will be usable for one month if it
is stored at ambient temperature or refrigerated.
The thickness of the dry film to apply will depend on the particular application.
Generally, a dry film thickness of 3 to 4 microns will give the best results.
The THIXON® 715 mixture can be applied by brush or by dipping, for spraying,
dilute 1 part THIXON® 715-EF&B blend with 1 part diluent (mixture of 1 part MEK
and 1 part Ethanol).
Solvents for dilution
Dilute with a 50:50 mixture by volume of Methyl Ethyl Ketone and Ethanol.
Drying
The applied film of THIXON® 715 should be allowed to dry for at least 30
minutes at ambient temperatures. It is essential to prebake the THIXON® 715
film for 10 to 15 minutes at 130°C (the blue tint becomes slightly green) in order
to avoid sweeping during transfer or injection molding.
For static molding such as roll covering, prebaking is not necessary.
TOXICITY
Prolonged inhalation of the vapors is harmful. This product must be used with
adequate ventilation.
Repeated contact with the skin may cause irritation.
This product is harmful or fatal if ingested.
