Chemical Family: Cellulose & Cellulosics, Esters

End Uses: Industrial Cleaners, Corn & Callus Treatment, Manicure & Pedicure Products

Eastman Cellulose Acetate Propionate CAP-482-0.5 is a low-odor, free-flowing powder. It is especially adaptable for use in printing inks and clear overprint varnishes because of its wide solubility in ink solvents, compatibility with other resins used in printing inks, and high melting point. Films formed from Eastman CAP-482-0.5 have fast solvent release, excellent antiblocking properties, and grease resistance superior to that of other film-formers. Its solubility and hardness make CAP-482-0.5 an excellent resin for nail lacquer topcoats. It is often used in combination with Eastman CAP-482-20 to optimize the formulation viscosity. When dissolved in appropriate solvents selected for CAP-482-0.5, a clear, colorless solution is produced. Eastman CAP-482-0.5 is lawful for use in certain food-contact applications subject to the food additive regulations of the FDA.

When CAB-381-20 is dissolved in appropriate solvents a clear, colorless solution is produced. CAB-381-20 is supplied as a dry, free-flowing powder.Eastman CAB-381-20 is based on cellulose, one of the most abundant natural renewable resources, from trees harvested from sustainably managed forests. The calculated approximate bio-content value of 41% for Eastman CAB-381-20 was determined by using six bio-based carbon atoms per anhyroglucose unit divided by the total number of carbons per anhyroglucose unit. Although the value reported is not specifically measured for bio-carbon, it can be estimated based on typical partition data. For applications that require food contact compliance, please refer to Eastman CAB-381-20, Food Contact.

Applications: Decorative Paints, Decorative Paints & Coatings, Bookbinding

Product Families: Other Solvents & Specialties, Aroma Ingredients, Solvents & Carriers

Chemical Family: Acetates, Esters

End Uses: Industrial Cleaners, Fragrances & Perfumes, Antiperspirants & Deodorants

Eastman Methyl Acetate is a fast evaporating, mild odor, active solvent that can be used with a broad range of coating and ink resins. Because of its fast evaporation rate, methyl acetate is useful as the fast-evaporating component in high-low solvent systems and in other applications where fast solvent release and quick dry-to-touch time are needed. Methyl acetate is an active solvent for the following resins: cellulose acetate butyrate, nitrocellulose, vinyl copolymers, acrylics, epoxies, polyamides, phenolics, alkyds, and polyesters. Compared with other fast evaporating solvents, methyl acetate gives solution viscosity somewhat higher than acetone or MEK but lower than ethyl acetate. Where a mild odor, fast evaporating solvent is required, methyl acetate is a very good choice for formulators of coating and ink products Methyl acetate is a VOC-exempt, non-HAP, non-ODS, readily biodegradable solvent that can be used in blends to develop environmentally friendly cleaners. * Eastman™ Methyl Acetate is exempt from regulation as a VOC and HAP under Federal Law, but can contain <= 2.5% methanol, which is a VOC and a HAP.
