SPECTAR

SPECTAR™ Stratus Copolyester

Applications: Lighting, Interior Fixtures, Medical Devices & Assemblies

Product Families: Polyesters & Copolyesters

Chemical Family: Polyesters

Polymer Name: Copolyester Resin

End Uses: Lighting Diffusers, Decorative Displays

Eastman Spectar Stratus copolyester was formulated specifically for the lighting market. Spectar Stratus brings your projects to light with excellent diffusion and high light transmission and superb processability. Light diffuser sheets made with Spectar Stratus can be bent hot or cold and polished with commercial edge-finishing equipment, sanding, solvents, flames, or buffing to produce finished edges—and brilliant designs. It can be laser cut, routed, welded, drilled, die-punched, or joined by screws, rivets, or bolts. It can also be cut on conventional table, band, or radial-arm saws with blades commonly used for plastic. Spectar Stratus can be vacuum-formed at lower temperatures than other plastics without pre-drying the sheet. It forms clear, strong bonds with commercially available cements and solvents. It accepts screen-printing, painting, laser-marking, and hot-stamping easily. Surface scratches or scuff marks can be removed using a common heat gun. Best of all, lighting applications made with Spectar Stratus are made tough—durable enough to survive heavy-use and harsh environments, and is resistant to a variety of chemicals and cleaners. Because of this outstanding toughness, designers can insist on thinner designs without compromising performance. Click here to access the Spectar Stratus brochure for more information.

Applications: Other Medical Applications

Product Families: Cellulosics

Chemical Family: Cellulose & Cellulosics

Polymer Name: Cellulose Acetate Propionate (CAP)

End Uses: Medical/Healthcare Applications

Tenite™ cellulosic plastics are noted for their excellent balance of properties - toughness, hardness, strength, surface gloss, clarity, and a warm feel. The mechanical properties of Tenite™ cellulosic plastics differ with plasticizer levels. Lower plasticizer content yields a harder surface, higher heat resistance, greater rigidity, higher tensile strength, and better dimensional stability. Higher plasticizer content increases impact strength. Tenite™ cellulosic plastics are available in natural, clear, selected ambers or smoke transparents and black translucent. Color concentrates are available in let-down ratios from 10:1 to 40:1. Tenite™ Cellulose Acetate Propionate 350-13 has a plasticizer level of 13%. It meets FDA requirements for certain food-contact applications when supplied in specific FDA color numbers.
