Eastman AQ™ 48 Ultra polymer is a sulfopolyester that disperses directly in a mixture of ethanol and water at room temperature or in warm water without the assistance of surfactants or other additives. Low-viscosity aqueous dispersions can be prepared at concentrations up to 30% polymer solids. The aqueous or hydroalcoholic dispersions have water-like viscosity at concentrations up to about 20% polymer. AQ polymers aid the dispersion of hydrophobic ingredients in water-based formulations and films formed from the dispersions are clear and glossy at room temperature. AQ 48 Ultra polymer was designed specifically for use as a hair fixative in 55% VOC hairspray. Therefore, it is more compatible with higher levels of alcohol than Eastman AQ™ 38S or 55S, and has good wash out with shampooing. AQ 48 polymer provides excellent hold at high humidity in aerosol and pump hairsprays, as well as in clear styling gels. Eastman AQ 48 has a Tg (glass transition temperature) of about 48°C. AQ 48 polymer is supplied as pellets.

Eastman AQ ™polymers differ chiefly in glass transition temperature (Tg) or softening point. As indicated by the number in the product name, Eastman AQ 38S polymer has a Tg of about 38°C. The "S" indicates AQ 38S is supplied as solid pellets. Eastman AQ linear polyesters serve as film formers in numerous cosmetic and personal care applications. Because of its low Tg, Eastman AQ™ 38S forms flexible films on the skin. It imparts a smooth feel to creams, lotions, and sprays and adheres to the skin. Thus, it is useful as a film-former in sunscreen products, providing excellent water resistance. AQ 38 is added to the water phase and aids the emulsification of oil-phase UV absorbers. AQ 38 provides improved coverage for sprayable sunscreens.

Eastman™ MAK (Methyl n-Amyl Ketone) has a high solvent activity, slow evaporation rate, low density, low surface tension, and high boiling point. These properties make MAK a very good solvent for cellulosic lacquers, acrylic lacquers, and high-solids coatings. Because regulations limit the weight of solvent per gallon of coating, formulators favor the use of low-density solvents that help reduce the VOC content of a coating. MAK is lower in density than ester, aromatic hydrocarbons, and glycol ether solvents with similar evaporation rates. The low density and high activity of MAK are significant advantages when formulating high-solids coatings to meet VOC guidelines. MAK is also used as a polymerization solvent for high solids acrylic resins. Tritan EX401, specifically developed for the Infant Care market, is an amorphous copolyester with excellent appearance and clarity. Tritan EX401 meets infant care sterilization requirements via boiling water or microwave steam sterilization. Eastman Texanol™ ester alcohol is the premier coalescent for latex paints. It performs well in all types of latex paints, in a variety of weather conditions, and over substrates with different levels of porosity. Eastman Texanol™ ester alcohol provides the highest level of film integrity at low levels of coalescent, enhancing the performance properties of the paint including low temperature coalescence, touch-up, scrub resistance, washability, color development, thermal flexibility, and resistance to mudcracking. Eastman Texanol™; ester alcohol also enhances thickening efficiency when used with associative thickeners. Eastman Texanol™ ester alcohol also works well in a variety of other applications. It is an ideal choice as a retarder solvent for use in coil coatings and high-bake enamels. Its unique balance of properties also makes it useful for a variety of chemical specialty applications such as ore flotation / frothing, oil-drilling muds, wood preservative carriers, and floor polishes. With a boiling point of 254°C, (vapor pressure 0.01 kPa @ 20°C), Eastman Texanol ester alcohol is not classified as a VOC according to European Union Decopaint Directive 2004/42/EC (commonly referred to as the Decopaint Directive); European Union Solvent Emissions Directive); and the China State Environmental Protection agency. Due to its non-VOC status, low toxicity, and biodegradability, Eastman Texanol™ ester alcohol has been awarded Green Label Type II certificate in China by the China Environmental United Certification Co. Ltd. (CEC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the State Environmental Protection Administration of China (SEPA). Eastman™ MPK (Methyl n-Propyl Ketone) is a medium evaporating, urethane-grade solvent. It is an active solvent for most synthetic resins including acrylics, polyesters, cellulosics, epoxies, vinyls, and alkyds. Its high solvency, low density, and medium evaporation rate make it attractive as a letdown solvent for high-solids resins used in formulating coatings with low VOC content. It is used in gravure printing inks and also provides excellent performance for a wide range of cleaning and surface preparation applications for the transportation industry. Eastman™ MPK - Substitution for Aerospace Cleaning Applications: From cleaning to pre-treatment, tests prove Eastman™ MPK is an effective non-HAP solvent alternative to MEK and toluene. With a vapor pressure of 27.8 mm @ 20°C, well below the 45 mm limit allows for compliance to NESHAP (National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants) requirements for hand-wipe cleaning operations for aerospace. http://www.epa.gov/ttnatw01/aerosp/aeroimp.pdf. Eastman™ MPK satisfies the rigorous aerospace performance requirements. It evaporates more slowly than MEK solvent due to its larger molecule.
