Grand Rapids Foam Technologies Visco Elastic Foam

Grand Rapids Foam Technologies Visco Elastic Foam was invented in the 1960s by a team at NASA. Although it was originally used in orbital vehicles, it is now a common product found in mattresses, pillows, cushions, headphones, and more. Mold and mildew resistance are critical for the thin layers of padding in bathmats and the soles of shoes. It’s a surprisingly diverse range of applications for a product chiefly associated with comfortable mattresses.

The unique properties of visco elastic foam, also known as memory foam, provide improved durability, mildew-resistance, and contouring. As you probably know from mattress commercials, memory foam reacts to the shape and temperature of your body, even conforming to the shape of a hand pressed into the surface. The natural warmth of the human body is enough to make the material more malleable, and it returns to its original shape as it cools. Microscopic pockets of foam, created in the manufacturing process, can be manufactured for a range of degrees of firmness, depending on the intended application.
