    Flame retardant

Thermoplastics are organic compounds which are more or less combustible. The most important influencing factors for combustion are the chemical structure, or the presence of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen or nitrogen. Additional formulation components like fatty acids or colors have great influence on combustibility and flammability, especially insulating foam for the building industry where for the most part highly combustible hydrocarbon propellant gas is used in its manufacture.

The various standards like the UL94, B1 / DIN 4102 or the Swiss fire standard 5.2 divide the non-flammability into several fire protection classes. Before choosing a flame retardant additive the manufacturer should determine which fire protection class has to be achieved. The achieved non-flammability has to be determined by an independent testing institute.

HECO®FLAM additives are distinguished by very fine particles which show a high effectiveness and at the same time only show a slight influence on the surface quality as well as on the mechanical properties. By using our synergistically acting flame retardants a reduction in dosage can be achieved.

A distinction is made between halogen-free and flame retardants which contain halogens whereas the dosages for halogen-free material are considerably higher.
