Because of the good application properties and shelf life of the coatings formulated from it, CoatOSil P 851 Resin is an excellent candidate for use in anticorrosion primers, particularly zinc dust primers. These anticorrosion primers are used in multi-coat systems for the protection of objects such as blast furnaces, cracking plants, steel stacks, rotary kilns etc., which are subjected to very high thermal stress.
A specific advantage of these systems is their good resistance to extreme changes in temperature and their long-term durability on simultaneous exposure to outdoor conditions and high temperature. The coatings adhere well to a smooth substrate, which has not been sandblasted. The substrate must however be free from rust and grease. If the surface of the substrate is not appropriate, it must be sandblasted before use.
- Coating System
For all objects which are simultaneously exposed to the weather and elevated temperature, a multi-coat system is required. For the topcoat, good results have been obtained with formulations based on CoatOSil P 851 Resin.

Technical Details & Test Data
- Drying
Highly pigmented paint films based on CoatOSil P 851 Resin dry tack-free at room temperature and still have very good weather and corrosion resistance. Optimum mechanical resistance is, however, only ensured after exposure to approx. 200°C for at least 60 minutes. Clear finishes and systems with a low pigment concentration must be cured for at least 60 minutes at 230°C.
- Pigments
Any inorganic, white or colored, heat-stable pigment can be used, but the most common are zinc dust, aluminum bronze and micaceous iron oxide. Zinc dust should be used for
pigmenting primers, but care should be taken to use only zinc dust types with a low lead content. The shelf life of coatings, prepared according to our formulation guide, is approximately 6 months.
