Monument Chemical Propylene Glycol (PG)

Monument Chemical Propylene Glycol (PG) is a viscous, stable, hygroscopic liquid. It is essentially colorless and has a slight odor and a very slight acid taste. Propylene glycol is completely miscible with water and many organic solvents and will dissolve a number of resins, dyes and essential oils. The principal end uses of PG include coolants, industrial solvent, chemical intermediate, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food and tobacco products, paints and coatings. It is available in Industrial and USP grades.

    Safety & Health

    Health & Safety Information
    • Under current U.S. OSHA's Hazardous Communication program PG is not considered hazardous.
    • Observe good industrial hygiene practices and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.

    Storage & Handling

    Storage & Handling

General industry practice is to store PG in carbon or stainless steel vessels.

PG should be stored only in tightly closed, properly vented containers away from heat, sparks, open flame or strong oxidizing agents.

Handle empty containers carefully. Combustible residue remains after emptying.

Provided proper storage and handling precautions are taken, PG manufactured and delivered by Monument Chemical is stable for at least 12 months from the date of manufacture. PG that is subsequently repackaged, handled and/or delivered by third parties may have a different shelf life and may require third party shelf life studies. Product past the retest date should be evaluated to confirm that all specifications are within their limits before use.
