- Properties and Applications
Due to its specific composition METOLAT 285 can be either used as wetting agent or as defoamer. In aqueous, alkaline systems METOLAT 285 is used as wetting agent. It also improves substrate wetting and penetration of coatings into wood. METOLAT 285 is also an oil free and particle free defoamer for solving special foam problems.
Main applications:
- Wetting agent for alcaline systems
- Substrate wetting agent
- Manufacturing of phosphoric acid (wet process)
- Defoaming of quarternary ammonium compounds
- Defoaming of acidic systems (e.g. pH 0.5)
- Recommended Levels and Use
- Production of phosphoric acid by the wet process: METOLAT 285 is added to the reaction mix at a ratio of 0.02 - 0.05 % on solids weight. The addition of defoamer makes filtration more effective and gives a higher yield in phosphoric acid and secondary products like gypsum. In contrast to defoaming agents based on tall oil, METOLAT 285 causes no deposit in storage vessels.
- Quarternary ammonium compounds are mainly used in cleaning products which tend to foam. METOLAT 285 is a special defoamer for these products and can be used either undiluted or pre-diluted in water. Normally a dosage of 3 to 5 % on weight of quarternary ammonium compounds is sufficient. Experiments have shown that METOLAT 285 has a positive impact on microbiological behavior of cleaning products.
- METOLAT 285 can also be used to eliminate wetting defects, caused by high levels of defoamer. Normal dosage ranges from 0.1 to 0.5 % on finished product.
