Applications & Uses

Application Technique
Mode Of Action

PEDESTAL inhibits chitin biosynthesis. PEDESTAL disrupts cuticle formation and deposition, which occurs when insects change from one developmental stage to another. The result is death at molting. PEDESTAL has no effect on adult stages of insects.

Use Sites

PEDESTAL may be used on ornamental plants grown in commercial greenhouses, shadehouses, and field grown nurseries.

Application

PEDESTAL is applied as a foliar spray. All parts of the crop must receive uniform spray coverage or desired result may not occur. Rates are 6 to 8 fluid ounces per 100 gallons. See label for complete instructions.

** Note: both Azatin O and Pedestal are two important insect growth regulators (IGR) in your thrips control program. Either can be mixed with any of the above treatments. If using Azatin O, the best results come from using at least 2 applications at 5 day intervals.

Tank Mixing

Tank mixing is permitted with PEDESTAL. Growers should test for compatibility and make sure to follow all directions and precautions on labels prior to application.

PEDESTAL can be used as part of an effective rotation program for control of several problem insect pests, including thrips, whiteflies, leaf miners, stink bugs, and lepidopteran pests such as armyworms.

Directions For Use

It is a violation of federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

READ ALL DIRECTIONS COMPLETELY BEFORE USE. Do not apply this product in a way that will contact workers or other persons, either directly or through drift. Only protected handlers may be in the area during application. For any requirements specific to your State or Tribe, consult the agency responsible for pesticide regulation.

Agricultural Use Requirements

Use this product only in accordance with the Worker Protection Standard, 40 CFR Part 170. This Standard contains requirements for the protection of agricultural workers on farms, forests, nurseries, and greenhouses, and handlers of agricultural pesticides. It contains requirements for training, decontamination, notification, and emergency assistance. It also contains specific instructions and exceptions pertaining to the statements on this label about personal protective equipment (PPE) and restricted-entry interval. The requirements in this box only apply to uses of this product that are covered by the Worker Protection Standard. Do not enter or allow worker entry into treated areas during the restricted entry interval (REI) of 12 hours.

PPE required for early entry to treated areas that is permitted under the Worker Protection Standard and that involves contact with anything that has been treated, such as plants, soil, or water is:

  • Coveralls over long-sleeved shirt and long pants
  • Chemical-resistant gloves made of barrier laminate, nitrile rubber > 14mils, neoprene rubber > 14mils, or viton > 14mils
  • Shoes plus socks
Use Restrictions
  • Do not make more than two (2) applications of PEDESTAL per crop per calendar year
  • Do not apply more than 52 fl. ozs. of PEDESTAL (63 ozs. Novaluron ai) per acre per crop season.
  • Do not apply to poinsettias.
  • Note: Do not apply to field grown ornamentals in the State of New York. Apply only to container grown ornamentals in greenhouses, shadehouses and nurseries. PLANT

TOLERANCE: Neither the manufacturer nor the seller has determined whether PEDESTAL can be used safely on all ornamental plants. Before any large-scale application, the user should determine the safety of PEDESTAL by testing a small number of the type of plants to be treated at the required rates and under the desired growing conditions. Observe the treated plants for symptoms of phytotoxicity, which may occur as chlorosis on sensitive plants. The user assumes all risks arising out of application to untested plants

Safety & Health

Personal Protective Equipment (Ppe)

Some materials that are chemical-resistant to this product are listed below.

Applicators and other handlers must wear:

  • long-sleeved shirt and long pants
  • chemical-resistant gloves such as barrier laminate, nitrile rubber, neoprene rubber, or viton

Precautionary Statements

HAZARDS TO HUMANS AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS

CAUTION: Contains petroleum distillate. Harmful if swallowed. Causes moderate eye irritation. Avoid contact with eyes or clothing. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling.

User Safety Recommendations
  • Wash hands before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco, or using the toilet.
  • Remove clothing/PPE immediately if pesticide gets inside. Then wash thoroughly and put on clean clothing
  • Remove PPE immediately after handling this product. Wash the outside of gloves before removing. As soon as possible, wash thoroughly and change clothing.
Environmental Hazards

This pesticide is toxic to freshwater and estuarine/marine invertebrates. Do not apply directly to water, to areas where surface water is present, or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Drift and runoff may be hazardous to aquatic organisms in water adjacent to treated areas. Do not contaminate water when disposing of equipment wash waters or rinsate. This product may contaminate water through drift of spray in wind. This product has a potential for runoff for several days to weeks after application. Poorly draining soil with shallow water tables is more prone to produce runoff. A level, well-maintained vegetative (grass) buffer strip between areas to which this product is applied and the surface water features such as ponds, streams, and springs will reduce the potential for contamination of water from rainfall runoff. Runoff of this product will be reduced by avoiding applications when rainfall is forecasted to occur within 48 hours. Sound erosion control practices will reduce this product’s contribution to surface water contamination
