Features & Benefits

General Information

Charger 75WG is a selective herbicide for pre and post emergence control of a wide range of weeds in asparagus, carrots, lucerne, maize, peas, potatoes and tomatoes. Charger 75WG is absorbed by both the roots and the leaves of the weeds causing the weeds to die. Best results are obtained from applications made to actively growing young weeds. As Charger 75WG also acts through the soil a single application gives residual control as well as a knock-down effect.

Applications & Uses

Application Technique
Herbicide Target Species
Spillage

Exclude non-essential people from the area. Wear protective clothing and prevent material from entering waterways. If in granules, moisten to prevent dusting and sweep up. If Liquid, absorb spill with inert material such as soil, sand, etc. Place in waste container. Wash area with water, and absorb with further inert material. Dispose of safely to a suitable landfill.

Weeds Controlled

Susceptible: Amaranths, barnyard grass, charlock, chickweed, fathen, field speedwell, fumitory, galinsoga, groundsel, henbit, nettles, plantains, redroot, scentless chamomile, shepherd’s purse, spurrey, small-flowered buttercups, stinking mayweed, storksbill, twin cress, white campion, wild radish, wild turnip, willow weed, wireweed. Moderately Susceptible: Cornbind, sow thistle, seedling docks, seedling Californian thistle, summer grasses. Resistant: Black nightshade, cleavers, docks, giant buttercup, most deep rooting weeds and most weeds over 4 - leaf stage.

Mixing

Partly fill the spray tank with water, add the required quantity of Charger 75WG and add the remaining water. Maintain agitation through filling and spraying.

Soil Residues

Because residues resulting from the use of this product could adversely affect following susceptible crops, do NOT plant crops other than those recommended for treatment without first sowing an indicator crop. To minimize soil residue effects, areas treated with Charger 75WG should be plowed and thoroughly cultivated before sowing other crops.

Resistance Management

GROUP C1 HERBICIDE

Charger 75WG contains metribuzin, which belongs to the triazinone chemical family. Some naturally occurring weeds may become resistant when excessive use of the same herbicide occurs. To prevent or delay the development of resistance, use in tank mixes and/or rotate use with herbicides with a different mode of action. Consult http://resistance.nzpps.org/index.php for alternative modes of action and details of resistance management strategies (if any) for the crops listed on the label.

Directions For Use

It is an offense for users of this product to cause residues exceeding the relevant MRL in the Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds.

CROP RATE / ha CRITICAL COMMENTS
Asparagus Seedling Newly Transplanted Established 500 – 750 g 500 g – 1 Kg 1 Kg Apply in 300 L water / ha minimum. Apply prior to crop emergence. A further application may be required during the season directed at the base of plants. Some tip-burn can be expected with post emergence applications. This burning does NOT persist. Apply before fern emergence. A further application may be necessary. Apply prior to spear emergence. A repeat application may be required after harvest. Application should NOT be made during the cutting period.
Carrots 500 g Apply in 300 - 500 L water / ha. Apply when carrots have reached the 2-true leaf stage, but before the majority of weeds have reached the 4-leaf stage.
Lentils 500 g OR 250 g + 3 L cyanazine 500SC Apply in 200 L water / ha minimum. Apply after sowing but before seedling emergence. Do NOT exceed the recommended rates of application as crop damage and a resultant yield reduction will occur.
Lucerne 1 Kg Apply in 300 – 600 L water / ha. For broadleaf and annual grass weed control apply during the dormant or semidormant period. Where perennial weeds are a problem apply 500 g + 1.6 L atrazine 500SC OR 500 g + 2 L paraquat 200SL. NOTE: Charger 75WG particularly effective for the control of Poa pratensis (Kentucky bluegrass). Do NOT apply to Lucerne stands less than 9 months old.
Maize 600 – 850 g +8 L Corra Apply in 300 L water/ ha minimum. Apply after sowing but before seedling emergence.
Peas 500 g Apply in 300 – 500 L water / ha. Apply post-emergence for the control of both grass and broadleaf weeds. Apply before the crop has reached 15cm in height and before the weeds have reached the 4-leaf stage. In situations where nightshade is a problem add 1Kg / ha of Tribunil™. Alternatively, if grasses are not a problem and only nightshade and other broadleaf weeds are present 250g of Charger 75WG + 1 kg Tribunil / ha is recommended. WARNING: Do NOT spray peas until the crop has fully recovered from the effects of rolling and harrowing. Do NOT apply to crops suffering disease or frost damage. Do NOT apply to undersown crops.
Potatoes Early Crop (Cool, moist conditions) Main Crop (Warm, dry conditions) 500 g 700 g Apply in 340 – 600 L water / ha. Apply during emergence but before the majority of potatoes are more than 10cm high and preferably when the weeds are at the cotyledon to 2-true leaf stage. Apply at weed emergence, but before the majority of potatoes are more than 10cm high and preferably when the weeds are at the cotyledon to 2-true leaf stage. Use 1 Kg where summer grass weeds and black nightshade are a problem.
Tomatoes 500 g Apply in 300 – 600 L water / ha. Pre-emergence in direct seeded crops: Apply after seeding but prior to emergence. If necessary follow with post emergence spray. Post Emergence in direct seeded or transplant crops: Apply as a directed spray when the tomatoes have 4-true leaves and the weeds are in the cotyledon stage
