General Information

Telemark is a broad spectrum synthetic pyrethroid insecticide/ miticide, and has activity against a wide range of chewing and sucking insects on kiwifruit, tomatoes, kabocha, pumpkins, and vegetable brassicas. Telemark kills pests through both contact and ingestion. Telemark is not systemic so coverage is essential.

Applications & Uses

Application Technique
Mixing

Partly fill the spray tank with water. Add the required quantity of Telemark. Agitate while adding the balance of water. Add a non-ionic wetting agent to improve wetting of the leaf surface if necessary.

Withholding Periods

It is an offense for users of this product to cause residues exceeding the relevant MRL in the Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels For Agricultural Compounds.

  • Kiwifruit : Do NOT apply after first female flowers open Do NOT allow grazing animals to graze in treated areas Field
  • Tomatoes : 3 days Kabocha and Pumpkins : Do NOT apply after flowering Vegetable
  • Brassicas : 3 days
Resistance Management

GROUP 3 HERBICIDE

Telemark contains the synthetic pyrethroid bifenthrin. Resistance to this insecticide could develop from excessive use. To minimize this risk, use strictly in accordance with label instructions. Avoid using this insecticide exclusively all season and avoid unnecessary spraying. Maintain good cultural practices. Diamond back moth caterpillars – Use a maximum of two consecutive applications (less than 15 days apart). Do NOT use where resistance is known to exist. Tomato fruitworm – Do NOT apply before 7th January. Aphids – If necessary to spray twice for aphids, alternate with an insecticide with a different mode of action. If Tomato fruitworm is present in a squash crop prior to January 7th, do not spray Telemark in line with the tomato fruitworm strategy. Consult http://resistance.nzpps.org/index.php for alternative modes of action and details of resistance management strategies (if any) for the insect pests listed on the label.

Directions For Use

It is an offense to use this product on animals.

Crop Pests controlled Rate Critical Comments
Kabocha, Pumpkins, Squash Aphids 200 – 400 mL / ha Make a single application pre-blossom. See resistance management section below
Kiwifruit Armored scales – dormant For concentrate sprays: 600 mL / ha For dilute sprays: 40 mL / 100 L water (min. 600 mL / ha) Timing: Apply at late dormant stage. For concentrate spraying apply in 600 – 1000 L of water / ha and add Megawet™ at 500 mL / ha. For dilute spraying apply in 1000 – 1500 L of water / ha
Armored scales, Leafrollers – Just before flowering For concentrate sprays: 500 ml / ha For dilute sprays: 20 mL / 100 L water (min. 500 mL / ha) Timing: Apply just before male vines begin to flower. For concentrate spraying apply 600 – 1000 L of water / ha and add Megawet at 500 mL / ha For dilute spraying apply 1500 – 2500 L water / ha
NOTE: Best armored scale control with Telemark requires sprays at both timings
Orchard surrounds Cicada, Passion-vine hopper eggs 100 mL + 100 mL Engulf / 100 L of spray mix When the surrounds contain significant sources of cicadas or PVH, such areas may be using suitable directed equipment to get good coverage, e.g. hand guns. Make application at the same time that the orchard is being treated. Follow all recommendations on the Engulf label. Mahoe, Blackberry, Wildberry and Bracken fern are favored host plants for PVH.
Tomatoes (Field) Tomato fruitworm, Aphids 250 – 500 mL / ha Apply one application after January 7th when second generation of tomato fruitworms are present. Use non-synthetic pyrethroid products prior to January 7th to control first generation tomato fruitworms. See resistance management section below.
Vegetable Brassicas Diamond back moth caterpillars, White butterfly caterpillars 250 – 500 mL / ha Apply from emergence in alternation with a non-synthetic pyrethroid product. Add a non-ionic surfactant. See resistance management section below

Note: Apply in sufficient water obtain complete coverage. For horticultural crops, the rates are for high volume spraying to run-off. For concentrate spraying adjust dilution rate accordingly. Use the high rate under high insect pressure and when spraying on a 10 – 14 day schedule Alternatively, use crop monitoring to determine when to spray for appropriate crops. For Passion-vine Hopper (PVH) and cicada overwintering eggs, application must be made with the addition of Engulf™.
