General Information

Synergy™ MCPA 750 is a selective herbicide for the control of a range of annual and perennial broad leaf weeds in established pastures, cereals, seed crops such as grass and linseed, on amenity turfs and in waste and non-crop areas. Synergy MCPA 750 is absorbed through the leaves and roots, where it translocates within the weed to inhibit growth and effectively control the weed.

Exclude non-essential people from the area. Wear protective clothing and prevent material from entering waterways. Absorb spill with inert material such as soil, sand, etc, and place in a waste container. Wash area with water, and absorb with further inert material. Dispose of safely to a suitable landfill.

Recommended Uses

Weeds controlled or severely checked: Bathurst bur, black nightshade, burdock, buttercups, catsear, creeping mallow, daisy, dandelion, dock seedling, fathen, field cress, fumitory, hawkbit, hedge mustard, hoary cress, mouse-eared hawkweed, nettles, Onehunga weed, oxtongue, pennycress, plantain, ragwort, redroot, shepherd’s purse, storksbill, thistles (Californian, nodding, Scotch, sow, welted, winged, variegated), tiger weed (beggars ticks), twin cress, wild turnip.

Directions For Use

Beware: Apply this product carefully. Thoroughly wash equipment after use with clean water. Avoid using the same spray equipment for applying pesticides to fruit and vegetable crops unless thoroughly decontaminated. Spray drift may cause serious damage to desirable plants. For aerial application, to minimize damage to susceptible vegetation within 500 meters, use low drift nozzles which minimize the production of small droplets (100 microns). Preferably spray in a constant light breeze that is away from sensitive crops. Synergy MCPA 750 can damage clovers, particularly in spring and autumn on newly sown pasture. On new pasture, for maximum clover protection, use a product containing MCPB. On established pasture, graze the area prior to spraying to reduce clover leaf and to expose target weeds. Leave for one week to allow weeds to freshen. Do not use on undersown cereals.

Rates And Timing of Application

Synergy MCPA 750 works best on seedling weeds. Use the lower specified application rates on seedling and young weeds. Use the higher rate on more established weeds and hard to kill weeds. Established perennial weeds may not be well controlled. Best results are obtained with autumn, early winter, or early spring treatments.

Crop/Area Rate per Hectare and Timing
Cereals: Barley, Ryecorn, Wheat 0.75 – 1.5 liters from 5 leaf stage to start of jointing
Oats 0.75 – 1.5 liters from 1 leaf stage to start of jointing
Linseed 1 liter up to flowering bud stage
Grass seed 0.7 – 1.7 liters soon after shutting up
Pasture and Amenity Turf 1.5 – 3 liters
Waste and Non-Crop Areas 1.5 – 3 liters

Avoid spraying when rain is expected. Rain within 2 hours of treatment may reduce effectiveness.

Application Methods

Synergy MCPA 750 can be applied with conventional spraying equipment. Boom spraying: Apply in 100 – 300 liters water/ha. Aerial spraying: Apply in 30 – 100 liters water/ha. Knapsack spraying: Use 25 – 50 ml per 10 liters of water. Spot spraying: Use 0.5 liters per 100 liters of water. Mist blowers: Use 130 ml per 10 liters of water.

Mixing

Pour the correct amount into the partly filled tank and add the remainder of the water while agitating. Agitate thoroughly before and during spraying and before spraying after a stoppage.

Weed Control Notes

Buttercup: Treat creeping and giant buttercup at flower bud formation. Repeat or annual treatment may be necessary. Ragwort: Seedling and plants up to small rosette stage will be controlled. However, large rosette and regrowth ragwort (characterized by mulitcrowns) will not be controlled. Thistles: Treat Californian thistle at flower bud formation. Repeat or annual treatment may be necessary. Treat nodding, welted and winged thistle in late autumn after the main strike. Further spring treatment may be necessary. Synergy MCPA 750 is not effective against chamomiles, chickweed, cleavers, cornbind, field pansy, groundsel, pennyroyal, speedwell, spurrey, staggerweed, stinking mayweed, willow weed and wireweed.

Withholding Periods

It is an offense for users of this product to cause residues exceeding the relevant MRL in the Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds. Poisonous plants, e.g. ragwort, may become more palatable after spraying, and livestock should be kept out until plants have died down. After spraying, avoid grazing for at least two weeks. This will also allow Synergy MCPA 750 to penetrate throughout the weed for maximum effectiveness.

Resistance Management

GROUP O1 HERBICIDE

Synergy MCPA belongs to the phenoxy chemical family. Some naturally occurring weeds may become resistant when excessive use of the same herbicide occurs. To prevent or delay the development of resistance, use in tank mixes and/or rotate use with herbicides with a different mode of action. Consult http://resistance.nzpps.org/index.php for alternative modes of action and details of resistance management strategies (if any) for the crops listed on the label.
