ALKEST® SP 60 F

1 of 33 products in this brand
The ALKEST® SP line is made up of sorbitan esters derived from the reaction of sorbitol with fatty acids. Products from the ALKEST® SP line are lipophilic, having low HLB values. The lipophilic nature makes these products soluble or dispersible in oil, favoring their use in water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions and as low HLB emulsifiers used in combination with high HLB emulsifiers in oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions. ALKEST® SP 60 and ALKEST® SP 80, when used in combination with ALKEST® TW 60 or 80, are excellent emulsifiers for beeswax, paraffin, carnauba and their mixtures, promoting stability and homogeneity of formulations. To prepare cosmetic creams and lotions, the selection of fatty acids and degrees of ethoxylation allow many combinations between the ALKEST® SP and ALKEST® TW products to obtain the right balance of emulsifiers for optimum performance and stability.

Agrochemical

  • The products from the ALKEST® SP and ALKEST® TW lines are used as emulsifiers in emulsifiable concentrates, oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions and microemulsions. They can also be used as adjuvants in soluble concentrates and as humectants in wettable powders and waterdispersible granules.

Foods

  • ALKEST® TW 60  is widely used as stabilizers and emulsifiers in food applications. In bakery products, they strengthen the gluten network by interacting with the wheat flour proteins, and form complexes with starch that reduce the retrogradation and increase shelf-life. In addition, they are efficient in the stabilization of O/W emulsions and contribute toward greater aeration in cakes, ice-creams and other foods.
  • ALKEST® SP 60 F is also used as stabilizers and emulsifiers in foods, recommended for applications that require W/O emulsions and O/W emulsions. They are typically combined with hydrophilic emulsifiers (high HLB) from the ALKEST® TW line to tailor the overall HLB contribution from all the emulsifiers. The ALKEST® SP line is also used to prevent bloom and loss of gloss in cocoa-based products and as flavor and fragrance dispersants.

Cosmetics

  • To prepare cosmetic creams and lotions, the selection of fatty acids and degrees of ethoxylation allow many combinations between the ALKEST® SP and ALKEST® TW products to obtain the right balance of emulsifiers for optimum performance and stability.

Detergents

  • Products from the ALKEST® SP and ALKEST® TW lines and their mixtures are recommended as emulsifiers in liquid and paste wax formulas, and as a solvent base for floor and automotive polishing waxes and furniture polish. Tailored HLB emulsification systems are obtainable using ALKEST® SP and ALKEST® TW mixtures
  • ALKEST® SP 60 when used in combination with ALKEST® TW 60 or 80, are excellent emulsifiers for beeswax, paraffin, carnauba and their mixtures, promoting stability and homogeneity of formulations.
  • Recommended use levels for the ALKEST® SP products are at 2% to 3% in furniture polish, floor wax, leather polishes, and at 4% to 6% in automobile polishes, in combination with the ALKEST® TW products with higher HLB. As a general rule, use 25% by weight of the ALKEST® SP / ALKEST® TW combination based on the amount of oil phase to emulsify.
