Technical Details & Test Data

Advantages
  • Form fish-scale layers of glass within the thickness of a coating or matrix material.
  • Glass flakes pile up like multiple layers of fish scales, creating an arduous and more impermeable path for any liquid or moisture vapor transmission (MVT).
  • Extend the life of protective coatings. Glass flakes dispersed through the coating prevent the ingress of water vapor and chemical solutions
  • Improve wear resistance. The hardness of epoxy and polyester resin coatings is increased with the addition of flake glass giving higher resistance to surface wear.
  • Minimizes cracking and peeling. With the addition of flake glass, the risk of cracking and peeling in the coating is greatly reduced due to the thermal stabilization provided by flake glass
  • Chemical resistance. Compared to other types of glass compositions and mica, C-glass flakes have a greater resistance to chemical attack.
  • Resistant to chipping. Flake glass composite materials have a greater resistance to chipping, especially on edges, which have proven to be problem areas.
  • Resistant to galvanic current. Due to the proximity of dissimilar metals, C-glass is more resistant to galvanic current.
