Technical Details & Test Data

Solvency/Viscosity Variation by Isomer THEIC Polyester

Due to Sasol’s unique fractionation and blending capability, this product is rich in ethylphenols, which show advantages with respect to solvency power and viscosity for common magnet wire enamel resin solutions. CA57 is also low in nitrogen bases – impurities which, at higher levels, are known to contribute to copper corrosion.

Safety & Health

Environmental Information

Sasol CA57 is toxic towards both fish and aquatic invertebrates and care must be taken to prevent them from entering surface or ground waters. Sasol CA57 tend to sink in fresh water but will float in concentrated brine. They are biodegradable in aerobic conditions. Soil or other materials contaminated with Sasol CA57 may become hazardous and must be disposed of by trained personnel according to regulations. In case of fire, CA57 vapors may form and be carried with smoke downwind, creating the possibility of exposure. It has a low potential for bioaccumulation.

Storage & Handling

Storage and Handling
  • CA57 is stable and has an indefinite shelf-life with regard to composition. Depending upon storage conditions, it may absorb moisture from the air, darken in color over time, or leach low level metals from the storage vessel. This will be minimized, however, if the container remains sealed and the product is not exposed to air or excessive heating.
  • Product should be sampled and evaluated for suitability if stored longer than 1 year.
  • Sasol Chemicals does not guarantee the suitability of this product for any particular use. The user is solely responsible for determining specific product application and suitability

Safe Handling Advice

  • Wear personal protective equipment.
  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
  • Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms.
  • In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.
  •  Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.
  • Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.
