CERALUTION ES RSPO-MB Features & Benefits
Applications & Uses
CERALUTION ES RSPO-MB is a highly efficient emulsifier / dispersant blend for low viscous O/W emulsions.
CERALUTION ES RSPO-MB should be mixed with the oil phase at 65°C. The oil and part of the water phase should be mixed together and homogenized by means of a rotor stator mixer whilst decreasing the temperature to 40°C to get a preemulsion with the required droplet size (all droplets below 1 micrometer). Afterwards dilute carefully with the water phase (which is at room temperature) whilst stirring gently.
Typical use levels for CERALUTION ES RSPO-MB are approx. 0.5 to 1.0% for approx. 10 to 20% oil phase and between 1.5 to 2.0% for 30 to 45% of internal phase in combination with 0.1 – 0.3% of a hydrocolloid, e.g. Xanthan Gum. The concentration of CERALUTION ES RSPO-MB needs to be adjusted to the level of internal phase as creaming is observed at too high emulsifier concentration.
Oil to emulsifier ratios of 40: 1 can be achieved in optimized formulations. All oil polarities can be handled (from paraffin to glycerides and esters, organic UV filters and silicone oils). Higher concentrations of electrolytes are tolerated; pH range is typically from 3 to 8. Up to 10% of ethanol is tolerated as well.
Glycols, especially with more than 3 C-atoms, should be added after the dilution step, the same applies for ethanol. Pigments are added to the water phase, if they have a hydrophilic coating and to the oil phase if the coating is hydrophobic. In both cases the pigments should be pre-wetted with water or glycol or a well-wetting oil respectively. In case of hydrophobic pigments the addition of approx. 0.3% PPG-15 Stearyl Ether (MARLOSOL ST 9150 P) or if the formulation contains less than 10% oil the addition of about 1% of a high viscous emollient (e.g. NAFOL 1618 H) may be required to the oil phase can help to improve stability. Increased CERALUTION ES RSPO-MB concentration will help to improve stability when pigments are being used.
