EPHEMER™ is an oil soluble brown algae extract which is the world’s 1st technology of macroalgae cell culture. EPHEMER™ has the ability to provide an immediate (24 hours) and long lasting (8 days) antioxidant effect on cells proven through in-vivo testing after 28 days. The mitochondrial DNA where the maternal genes are located is protected. After 2 months (in-vivo) the microrelief and roughness on the skin is reduced.

Ephemeral cells in the lifecycle of macroalgae

EPHEMER™ is a gametophyte extract taken from macroalgae cells grown in a laboratory and harvested at an ephemeral stage in the life cycle of Undaria Pinnatifida seaweed.

EPHEMER™ – First cosmetic active ingredient from macroalgae cell culture for a long anti-aging effect.

EPHEMER™ is a gametophyte extract taken from macroalgae cells grown in a laboratory and harvested at an ephemeral stage in the life cycle of Undaria Pinnatifida seaweed. This in-vitro cultivation of a cosmetic product is entirely unique.

Vitro & vivo results show Immediate & long term anti-oxidant efficacy.

After 1 hour, the anti-oxidant efficacy on the cellular free radicals is higher (-116% versus control) than a common sporophyte seaweed extract of Undaria Pinnatifida (-71% versus control) After 1 hour, the anti-oxidant efficacy on the mitochondrial free radicals is specific (-100% versus control). The common seaweed extract (sporophyte) of Undaria Pinnatifida has no efficacy.

After 5 days, EPHEMER™ confirms its anti-oxidant efficacy on the mitochondrial free radicals (-36% versus control). EPHEMER™ boosts the energetic yield. With EPHEMER™ after 5 days, the energetic yield is 24% higher on senescent cells versus non treated senescent cells.

After 8 days, EPHEMER™ preserves mitochondrial DNA, which is essential for proper mitochondrial function. Mitochondrial DNA are also called 'Eve's Genes' since they are inherited solely from the mother. After 8 days, increase of catalase, as a detoxifying enzyme that contributes to fight against a large spectrum of free radicals. This property has been confirmed through in-vivo testing.

After 28 days, IN VIVO the skin shows a better ability to fight free radicals, a cause of skin aging, versus placebo.

Sporophyte is the common macroalgae form. Gametophytes are cells liberated by the sporophytes in the reproduction lifecycle, as an ephemeral stage. Gametophytes are the Source of Life for the survival of the species. In the ocean, gametophytes are unstable and not available in large quantities. In photobiorectors, gametophytes are stable thanks to specific conditions.

Erwan Le Gélébart, R&D Project Manager at BiotechMarine: “This is a major innovation for the world of cosmetic active ingredients. Macroalgae cells have the amazing ability to transform light and minerals into organic molecules. This launch confirms the acceleration of Marine Biotechnologies development into SEPPIC.”
