Technical Details & Test Data
- Maximize Performance Minimize Components
with NINOL® CAA, a novel, naturally-derived esthetics enhancer and fragrance solubilizer. NINOL® CAA enables the solubilization of fragrances and dissolves various organic materials at room temperature due to a large Hansen Solubility sphere, while still demonstrating excellent viscosity and foaming performance.
At reduced use levels, this DEA-free, multifunctional nonionic surfactant provides superior viscosity building performance and comparable foam stabilization to traditional amides and betaines.
NINOL® CAA is the green solution for “free of” claims that meets performance and esthetics expectations.
Fragrance Solubilization
NINOL® CAA Performance Properties with Fragrance
Multifunctional
Utilizing NINOL® CAA as a fragrance solubilizer, viscosity builder, and foam stabilizer can reduce complexity and the number of components in the finished formulation.
NINOL® CAA solubilizes a variety of fragrances at room temperature, achieving the same number of clear systems as Polysorbate 20 and a greater number of clear systems than the other solubilizers and amides tested.
The addition of NINOL® CAA and fragrance to the base formulation significantly increased the viscosity and maintained or improved the foam.
After five minutes, foam height remained the same with or without oil except for the Vanilla (Belle Aire) system which experienced a 5 ml decrease with no oil present.
System: Base - 12% active Sodium laureth sulfate (2 moles) and 1.5% active Cocamidopropyl betaine Fragrance - 1% fragrance and 3% NINOL® CAA, solubilizer or amide.
Viscosity Building Properties
Maximize Performance
NINOL® CAA achieves significant viscosities at reduced use levels outperforming the other amides and betaine tested.
In this system, only 1% of NINOL® CAA is needed to reach a typical formulation viscosity where all other amides and betaine tested require more than 2%.
At equal or half the use level, NINOL® CAA provides comparable to improved flash foam and foam stability in the presence of oil to the other amides and betaine tested.
Foaming Properties
Shake Foam Test (0.2% active solution at 25 °C)
System: 12% active Soduim laureth sulfate (2 moles), 1.5% Sodium chloride, and amide or betaine in the amount indicated.
Relative Mildness
When combined with anionic surfactants, NINOL® CAA reduces the amount of Zein protein solubilized and therefore increases mildness.
