Many applications stand open in connection with metallic materials, e.g. the flotation of ores using TIB® Thio TS. The addition of sodium tetrasulfide in this case promotes the separation of the various particles from one another in order to be able to sort out the desired particles. Therefore, sodium tetrasulfide is also referred as a flotation agent in this context. Other important applications in the field of metal processing are electroplating and the coloring of metals. In the context of electroplating, the chemical is also used for the cleaning of galvanic baths.

Often, the targeted application does not explicitly deal with the processing of metals, but to filter out different forms. The principle of precipitation is of central importance. The addition of TIB® Thio TS is considered to be a decisive driving force for precipitation and ensures that the metallic substances can be separated. After that the filtering is very simple and can be carried out using physical methods. The concrete application as a precipitant is particularly important in sewage sludge treatment and in water treatment. During flue gas cleaning of combustion plants also mercury is often filtered out.

However, cleaning is not only due to filtering out, but also by means of the binding of certain particles. Flocculation is therefore an important field of application for TIB® Thio TS in sewage treatment. In this case, the smallest dirt particles are bound until they can be detected by filters. Heavy metals can not only be separated but also bound by precipitation by means of sodium tetrasulfide. This is particularly advantageous in pipelines as well as in waste incineration plants. This also makes the removal of metals from scrubber wash water possible.
