Vinkocide® CMI 14 M

Vinkocide® CMI 14 M is a monovalent stabilized mixture of 5-chloro-2-methyl-isothiazol-3-one and 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one (CMIT/MIT), offered as an aqueous solution with a 14% concentration. It adheres to stringent purity standards to minimize impurities that could lead to undesired effects. By penetrating microbial cells and disrupting vital cellular functions, it prevents microbial adaptation and effectively preserves various aqueous and water-miscible systems. Its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity covers bacteria, fungi, and yeasts, making it a reliable choice even in formulations sensitive to bivalent metal ions. Free from formaldehyde, formaldehyde releasers, and phenolics, it ensures stability and efficacy without compromising safety or environmental standards. Vinkocide® CMI 14 M is suitable for a wide range of preservation applications, including products storage, liquid-cooling and processing systems, slimicides, and working or cutting fluid preservatives.

Key Benefits
  • General Benefits:
    • Broad antimicrobial spectrum against bacteria, fungi and yeasts
    • Often effective where other preservatives fail
    • Free from formaldehyde, formaldehyde releasers, phenolics
    • Good chemical stability
    • Non-volatile
    • Excellent long-term efficacy
    • Belongs to the best evaluated broad-spectrum biocides
  • Vinkocide® CMI 14 M meets the highest purity standards. Impurities are often the cause of undesired side effects in terms of toxicological or technical properties. Also, the efficacy can be influenced by impurities. These are reduced to a minimum in Vinkocide® CMI 14 M.
  • Vinkocide® CMI 14 M penetrates the cells of microorganisms, reacts with vital parts of the cell and inactivates important substrates and enzymes necessary to normal cell function. These relatively unspecific reactions prevent the development of microbial adaptation.
  • Vinkocide® CMI 14 M prevents microbial deterioration of products and the resulting effects such as:
    • phase separation
    • odor build up
    • gas build up
    • changes in viscosity
    • build-up of health threatening toxins
  • Vinkocide® CMI 14 M is effective against Legionella. Concentrations as low as 4 ppm a.i. lead to a significant reduction of Legionella pneumophila.

Product Applications
  • Vinkocide® CMI 14 M is a biocide to be used as a preservative for technical applications like paints, adhesives, household and industrial cleaning products, ideal for use in aqueous and water miscible systems.
  • Preservatives for products during storage: Products used for the preservation of manufactured products, other than foodstuffs, feedingstuffs, cosmetics or medicinal products or medical devices by the control of microbial deterioration to ensure their shelf life. Products used as preservatives for the storage or use of rodenticide, insecticide or other baits.
  • Preservatives for liquid-cooling and processing systems: Products used for the preservation of water or other liquids used in cooling and processing systems by the control of harmful organisms such as microbes, algae and mussels. Products used for the disinfection of drinking water or of water for swimming pools are not included in this product-type.
  • Slimicides: Products used for the prevention or control of slime growth on materials, equipment and structures, used in industrial processes, e.g. on wood and paper pulp, porous sand strata in oil extraction.
  • Working or cutting fluid preservatives: Products to control microbial deterioration in fluids used for working or cutting metal, glass or other materials.
Application Notes
  • Under certain physical-chemical conditions the stability of CIT/MIT can be limited. Therefore, we recommend testing the compatibility in individual formulations.
  • For special formulations it can be desirable to combine Vinkocide® CMI 14 M with further biocides.
  • Depending on the individual demands Vinkocide® CMI 14 M can be combined with most commonly used biocides. It can be used in a pH range of 3 - 8.5. Temperatures greater than 40 - 50°C should be avoided.
  • Under normal use patterns concentrations (w/w) of 0.01 – 0.025 % are sufficient in most applications.
  • Vinkocide® CMI 14 M is used for technical applications.
  • For better dosing pre-dilutions can be made. Such pre-dilutions should not be stored for a long time.
  • Vinkocide® CMI 14 M is corrosive to metals according to test UN C1 against aluminum, gray cast iron and steel.
  • These metals are not suitable materials except some approved high-grade steels. Such steels can be used for storage and transport.
