Jungbunzlauer Suisse AG Tripotassium Citrate
INCI Name:
Potassium Citrate
Ingredient Name:
Potassium Citrate
Functions:
Chelating Agent, Mineral Source, Supplement, Buffers & pH Stabilizer, Stabilizer, Antioxidant, Emulsifier, Mineral Source
CAS Number:
866-84-2
Chemical Family:
Organic Salts
Dosage Form:
Capsules, Tablets
Jungbunzlauer Suisse AG Tripotassium Citrate is supplied in accordance with the requirements of the Food Chemical Codex (FCC), the US Pharmacopeia (USP), the European Pharmacopeia (Ph.Eur.) and the Commission Regulation (EU) No. 231/2012 always in their latest versions. It is produced by complete neutralization of citric acid with a high purity potassium source and subsequent crystallization. Tripotassium citrate is used in foods, beverages, and technical applications as buffering, sequestering or emulsifying agent. It usually replaces trisodium citrate whenever a low sodium content is desired. In pharmaceuticals it is used as potassium source and as active ingredient to treat urinary duct stones. When added to oral care products, tripotassium citrate is the active ingredient to reduce the sensitivity of the teeth. Tripotassium citrate occurs as transparent crystals or a white, granular powder. It is an odorless substance with a cooling, salty taste. It is slightly deliquescent when exposed to moist air, freely soluble in water and almost insoluble in ethanol (96%). In contrary to other potassium salts, it is less bitter and thus can be used at higher concentration levels. Tripotassium citrate is a non-toxic, slightly alkaline salt with low reactivity. It is chemically stable if stored at ambient temperatures. In its monohydrate form it is very hygroscopic and must be protected from exposure to humidity. Care must be taken not to expose tripotassium citrate monohydrate to high pressure during transport and storage as this may result in caking. Being a leading producer of tripotassium citrate, Jungbunzlauer is able to provide a very promising natural alternative flame retardant for solid wood. The food-approved substance is safe and easy in handling. Furthermore, tripotassium Citrate is one of the few fully biodegradable and non-toxic flame retardants.

Potassium gluconate is recommended for introducing or enriching potassium in food, especially in dietetic food. Furthermore the product acts as a buffer salt and as a salt replacer in foodstuffs where sodium salts are not desired. In pharmaceuticals, it serves as a potassium source against potassium deficiency or as a systemic alkaliser. Potassium gluconate is also used in technical applications e.g. as sequestering agent in textiles or for galvanic surface treatment. Potassium gluconate is a free flowing, white to slightly yellow, crystalline powder with a slightly bitter taste.Furthermore, it is non-toxic and possesses good physiological compatibility so that it may be used in food and pharmaceutical products. Jungbunzlauer potassium gluconate is supplied in its anhydrous form and shows little hygroscopic behavior. Aqueous solutions of potassium gluconate resist oxidation and reduction, even at high temperatures, and are not corrosive. It is easily biologically degradable and consequently, provides no wastewater problem. The directly compressible form potassium gluconate shows optimal tableting properties due to its amorphous structure.

Jungbunzlauer Suisse AG Trisodium Citrate Anhydrous
INCI Name:
Potassium Citrate
Chemical Name:
Citric Acid Trisodium Salt
CAS Number:
68-04-2
Functions:
Buffers & pH Stabilizer, Mineral Source, Supplement, Desiccant, Stabilizer, Chelating Agent, Mineral Source, Emulsifier, Emulsifier
Chemical Family:
Organic Salts
Synonyms:
Trisodium Citrate, Trisodium Citrate
Jungbunzlauer Suisse AG Trisodium Citrate Anhydrous is supplied in accordance with the current requirements of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC), and the Commission Regulation (EU) No. 231/2012. It is produced by complete neutralization of citric acid with high purity sodium hydroxide or carbonate and subsequent crystallization and dehydration. The common hydrate form, trisodium citrate dihydrate, is widely used in foods, beverages and various technical applications mainly as buffering, sequestering or emulsifying agent. Jungbunzlauer trisodium citrate anhydrous is manufactured from trisodium citrate dihydrate. Water molecules of the dihydrate crystals are removed by a patented process without destroying the original crystal matrix. The resulting crystals have a porous matrix that can be used as a carrier for inorganic and/or organic substances like perfumes and surfactants. Due to its low water content trisodium citrate anhydrous does not add water to the formulation. It has even the excellent ability to take up surplus water from moisture sensitive formulations thus providing better shelf life to the end product. Therefore, trisodium citrate anhydrous finds its particular uses in water sensitive formulations like instant drinks as well as tablets and powders in pharmaceuticals and detergents. Trisodium citrate anhydrous occurs as white, granular crystals or as white, crystalline powder. It is freely soluble in water and practically insoluble in ethanol (96 %). It is a non-toxic, neutral salt with low reactivity. It is chemically stable if stored at ambient temperatures. Trisodium citrate anhydrous is fully biodegradable and can be disposed of with regular waste or sewage.

In some countries such as USA, tricalcium citrate is simply denominated calcium citrate. It is produced by complete neutralization of citric acid with a high purity calcium source such as calcium hydroxide or calcium carbonate. With its high calcium content of 21%, tricalcium citrate is the most economic calcium salt among the commonly used organic calcium salts. Tricalcium citrate is supplied as a white, odorless, crystalline powder or fine powder. It is slightly soluble in water and freely soluble in diluted hydrochloric acid. In contrary to other salts, tricalcium citrate is better soluble at lower temperatures (so-called "inverse solubility"). It is practically insoluble in alcohol. During heat treatment, it is less reactive than other calcium salts due to its inverse solubility. With regard to its significantly better bioavailability, tricalcium citrate is preferred over inorganic calcium sources such as calcium carbonate or calcium phosphate.
