It's root is also white but inedible. The plant is native to Europe, Asia and North Africa but has been naturalized in North America.

Plant's Power Inc Oregano (Origanum Vulgare) Essential Oil is obtained from Origanum Vulgare, a strongly aromatic bushy perennial plant with a hairy stem and dark green oval leaves. The flowers form small whitish-gray clusters.
