The bark is fibrous in mature trees. Flowers are cream colored and are followed by small woody capsules. The juvenile leaves are ovate (7 cm long) and dull green. Adult leaves are lanceolate and glossy green (to 17 cm). The leaves are intensely aromatic and are used as a bushfood spice. E.olida is classified as a threatened species in the wild, but is becoming more common in cultivation due to itsessential oil and spice qualities. E. olida leaf is also used as a dried spice product in bushfood cooking, especially with fruit and in herbal teas. It has high anti-oxidant activity. Anise Myrtle is grown in plantations around northern New South Wales. These plantations were actually planted for the herb or bush tucker markets until the ‘rediscovery’ of its unique essential oil. The trees are harvested and are then steam distilled for around 1 hour. The harvesting is done by unique farm machinery designed by the farmers themselves. Leaves are cut, a vacuum sucks the leaves into a bin and the leaves are placed into a stainless steel boiler. Anise Myrtle is a new oil to the aromatherapy industry and has the potential to supersede traditional Aniseed essential oils on the basis of a superior Anethole content and a superior, fresher Anise aroma. Conventional or organic available Yarrow has been known by several common names including Devil’s nettle, Old Man’s Pepper, Yarroway, Woundwort, Milfoil, Angel flower. The Achillea genus contains over 120 species and several subspecies. Achillea millefolium is widespread throughout Europe while A. lanulosa is common to North America although A. millefolium has been introduced as well. These two species are practically identical Achillea millefolium is native to Europe, Asia and has naturalized throughout North America as well as to other temperate zones of the world. It is a perennial herb with several erect stems arising from multiple rhizomes below the ground. The compound leaves are bright green and feathery. Numerous small, white to pink flower heads are borne in flat-topped clusters (Van Wyk and Wink, 2004). Yarrow is a venerable plant of ancient medicinal repute (Hatfield, 1971). According to legend, the Greek hero Achilles is said to have utilized Yarrow to stop the bleeding (styptic) of his soldiers as well as his own wounds during the Trojan War. It is thought that the genus name, Achillea, comes from this great warrior of Greek mythology. Roman centurions knew this plant under the name Herba militaris and later by ‘Soldier’s Woundwort’ and Carpenter’s Weed, reflecting its use for treating wounds. The species name millefolium is derived from the common name Milfoil which comes from the French mile feuille, meaning ‘1000 leaves’, referring to its feathery leaves, which are divided into thousands of tiny leaflets (Balick, 2014). Yarrow was formally named Achillea millefolium by Linnaeus in 1753 (Keller, 2014).

Conventional or organic available White Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi), from the Rutaceae family is the rotund, yellow-orange sour to semi-sweet fruit of a subtropical evergreen citrus tree. With a fresh, uplifting aroma, the oil is cold pressed from the rind of the fruit and is cherished for its many uses and benefits. It has a very high (88 to 95 percent) content of highly valued limonene as well as antioxidants. Its benefits are purifying, cheerful and uplifting. Agonis Fragrans is a relatively new oil from Australia. It was first introduced to aromatherapists in 2006. Agonis Fragrans or Coarse Tea Tree is found on the South Coast of Western Australia. The plant is a small shrub with fragrant white foliage. Agonis fragrans belongs to the Myrtaceae family. It is a small lignotuberous shrub growing up to 2.5 meters. The aroma of Agonis Fragrans is clean, refreshing, delicately camphoraceous with a hint of citrus and a balsamic undertone. It blends well with most other essential oils. Agonis Fragrans is a safe, non-toxic essential oil and is safe for use with children and the elderly. Agonis Fragrans essential oil is extracted via steam distillation of the stems and branches.

This delightful, uplifting, fragrant oil is steam distilled from the gum resin of the Elemi tree, native to the Philippines. It is a large evergreen tree that can grow up to a height of 30 meters. Conventional or organic available Neroli oil is an essential oil produced from the blossom of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium subsp. amara or Bigaradia). Most of the parts of the bitter orange are valued for their strong but alluring fragrance, and are vital in the fragrance industry. Orange oil comes from the orange peel the leaves are used to make petitgrain oil and the flowers are steam distilled to make neroli (or orange blossom) oil. Neroli oil is widely used in the perfume and fragrance industry. Eau -de -Cologne, the famous perfume from Cologne, Germany, used this oil as its main ingredient. It was named after the 16th century Princess Marie-Anne de La Treemoille of Nerola, Italy, who loved the fragrant orange blossom scent and introduced it to Italy. Neroli oil has a deep, intoxicating mix of citrus and floral aromas and can be pale yellow or coffee-brown in color. Neroli oil is costly to produce. It takes one ton of bitter orange blossoms to make one quart of oil.

The santalum spictatum is a tree native to semi-arid areas at the edge of Southwest Australia and it is one of four species of the family Santalaceae to occur in Western Australia. Normally a shrubby to small tree, it can grow up to 6 meters and is tolerant of drought and salt. The foliage is gray-green in color. The fruit is spherical, about 3 cm in diameter and is orange. The oil from this amazing tree is proving very popular and more commercially viable than the Indian Sandalwood. To ensure sustainable existence for the natural sandalwood resources, timber harvesting has been regulated since 1920 by the Western Australian Sandalwood Control Act (1929). Plantations were established to renew the tree populations and essential oil production comes only from these managed sources. The trunk and roots of Australian sandalwood are stripped of bark and distilled for their essential oil. Its sweet, woody character with spicy accents is similar to the fragrance of Indian sandalwood (Santalum album), but the rawer, earthy dimension makes it an original and distinct material. The oils produced by the tree contain a greater complexity of chemicals, many of which have antimicrobial qualities. Sandalwood oil is widely known for being a spiritual, sacred oil, used around the world during practices of prayer and meditation. It is well known in Australian Indigenous circles, and traditional Aboriginal uses include making of implements/artifacts and for medicinal purposes and the seeds/fruits were eaten.

Conventional or organic available There are several varieties of cedarwood oils. Cedarwood Atlas Oil is a pale yellow to orange/yellow or deep amber/brown in color, with an unusual, slightly camphorous aroma with woody undertones. The oil is obtained by the steam distillation of the wood, with the higher quality oils usually coming from older trees. Cedarwood Atlas is a slow-growing, coniferous evergreen, reaching heights of 33 meters or more that grows mainly in Morocco, North Africa and India. The diameter of the trunks can reach over 1.5 meters. Cedarwood Atlas was believed to have been used extensively by the Egyptians in cosmetics, embalming, perfume and medicine. It is a rich, versatile oil, with a calming aroma.

Tasmannia lanceolata (syn. Drimys lanceolata), commonly known as the mountain pepper is a shrub native to woodlands and cool temperate rainforest of south-eastern Australia and the mountains of Tasmania. The shrub varies from 2 to 10 m high. This attractive tree has shiny dark green pointed leaves with scarlet stemletts. It has small, waxy, cream flowers which develop into dark charcoal brown pepper berries, only born by the female plants. The small cream or white flowers appear in summer and are followed by black, globose, two-lobed berries 5–8 mm wide, which appear in autumn. There are separate male and female plants. The oil is steam distilled from the fruit of the tree and has an intense peppery background aroma, with spicy, exotic top notes, a hint of cinnamon and the Australian bush.

Conventional or organic available Eucalyptus smithii, or gully gum, is a native tree of northern Victoria and southern New South Wales, Australia. It naturally occurs on the lower slopes, gullies, and swamps, where soil does not dry out. The species is widely grown in southern Africa, and its leaves are used for the production of distilled eucalyptus oil. The essential oil is steam-distilled from the twigs and leaves and has a woody, camphorous, yet fresh aroma. Eucalyptus Smithii is the mildest Eucalyptus oil and is the preferred choice for use with children or the elderly or when prolonged use is required. Australian aboriginals use oil-containing eucalyptus leaf infusions as a traditional medication for body pains, fever, sinus congestions, and colds. As early as the 1880s, surgeons were already using eucalyptus oil as an antiseptic during operations. Toward the end of the century, the oil was used in most hospitals in England to clean urinary catheters. Cananga (Cananga odorata var macrophylla)is closely related to Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata var genuine). The oils are quite similar, as the plants are from the same genus and species. Cananga has a beautiful but more subtle floral aroma than Ylang Ylang and has a more woody note. They have slightly different chemical compositions. Cananga has higher amounts of beta-caryophyllene. It is a soothing and calming oil. It has a middle/base note. Canaga oil is highly prized in the perfume industry and is a favorite in cosmetic products. The Cananga tree is native to Indonesia, Malaysia and The Philippines. The oil is produced from the steam distillation its yellow flowers. This precious absolute is made by solvent extraction of the flowers of the Hyacinthus orientalis, a small, herbaceous perennial plant, that flowers in early spring. The bell shaped flowers can be pink, purple to white and the plant is primarily native to the Mediterranean region and tropical Africa. The absolute is extremely precious due to the limited cultivation window of the flowers, and the low yield per flower. Hyacinth Absolute is a valuable ingredient in the perfume industry, and as a fragrant component in products. This refreshing and invigorating absolute also has antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory properties and is considered calming, balancing and comforting.

Honey Myrtle (Melaleuca teretifolia) is a unique species from Western Australian. Its essential oil is rich in citral (typically 70 – 85%). This essential oil has a beautiful fresh, sweet lemon fragrance with soft citrus undertones with a hint of honey notes coming through. It presents a pleasant and surprising complexity not usually associated with the more traditional lemon-scented essential oils.

Conventional or organic available The Clementine is a citrus hybrid of mandarin and sweet orange. Clementine Essential Oil is extracted from fruit peel. Oil content in peel varies from 0.3 to 0.9%. Like other citrus oils, Clementine is rich in the cleansing chemical component Limonene. In Ancient times Clementines were referred to as the “crown jewel” of the Mandarin family. The clergyman Pierre Clement is credited with crossing a Mandarin and an Orange. This coupling resulted in a seedless mandarin with loose skin and a smooth and shiny appearance. Clementine is another variety of mandarin like Tangerine. It is sweet and easy to peel. It is grown commercially in Algeria, China, Spain, Turkey, Morocco, Brazil, Egypt, the United States, Iran and Argentina.

Conventional or organic available Red Thyme traditionally grows in the southern most regions of Spain. It’s a small aromatic herb from the mint family mostly used for culinary purposes. Harvesting takes place during the summer months, between late June and August. Thyme Red Thymus vulgaris has been cultivated by humans as long as records have been kept. The history of Thyme dates back to Ancient Egyptian times where it was used for embalming practices. Greeks and Romans also valued Thyme as a herb for flavoring food, as incense, for cleansing rooms and considered the dry herbs to be a source of courage. Thyme has been embraced for its culinary uses in modern history and a staple in most herb gardens and kitchens around the world.

A warming, stimulating oil, Pink Peppercorn is steam distilled from the fruit of the Schinus mole. This popular spice was considered sacred to the ancient Incas and has been used in traditional medicine for hundreds of years. Pink Peppercorn (Schinus molle), also known as the Peruvian peppertree, peppercorn tree and Californian pepper tree is a member of the Anacardiaceae family. It’s an evergreen tree that grows up to 9 meters in height by 7 meters in width. It is native to the Peruvian Andes. Chains of cream flowers appear at the end of the branches in summer followed by peppercorns, which turn pink in autumn and are referred to as ‘pink peppercorns’ although they are not true peppercorns. Pink peppercorns have a citrus flavor and are much more fragrant. Shinus molle grows wild throughout most of Australia in a range of habitats from grasslands to dry open forest and coastal areas. The branches tend to droop which gives the tree a weeping effect. It is found as a bush in dry lands but reaches tree size in dry river beds with accessible underground water. It is an evergreen that has a graceful fern like foliage. This tree grows well in the sun and is drought tolerant so can still flourish with only occasional watering. All parts of the tree have high oil and essential oil contents that produce a spicy, aromatic scent.

The blood orange is an intriguing variety of sweet orange that shares the same botanical name, Citrus sinensis. The blood orange is named as such because its fruit segments are blood red in color. Aromatically, both Sweet Orange Essential Oil and Blood Orange Oil are similar. However, Blood Orange Essential Oil is a bit more tantalizing, bright and tart. As the aromatic and therapeutic properties are similar, Blood Orange Essential Oil can be used in place of Sweet Orange Oil in both aromatic and therapeutic blends. The distinct dark flesh of the Blood Oranges us due to the plentiful presence of a certain kind of antioxidant pigment called anthocyanins.

Conventional or organic available Lime is indigenous to Southeast Asia, in the Indo-Malaya. The plant was introduced into Asia and Egypt by the merchants of the Middle East in the tenth century. From Saudi Arabia, it was introduced to Africa and reached Europe through the Spanish invaders, in the thirteenth century Christopher Columbus took Limes to America. The British Sailors used Lime to prevent Scurvy. The Early Settlers introduced Lime to Australia in the 19th Century. Lime oil is extracted from the fresh fruit peel by cold expression. Blends well with Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Geranium, Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Mandarin, Neroli, Sweet Orange, Rosemary, Rosewood, Tangerine and Ylang-Ylang.

Conventional or organic available Lemon Scented Tea Tree is a tall evergreen shrub to small tree, growing to a maximum of 5 meters that is fast growing and drought hardy. It naturally occurs near sclerophyll forest or rainforest, on sandy or rocky escarpments, on the east coast of Australia. It has simple leaves, 20–40 mm long, with a distinctive lemony aroma. The flowers are white, followed by woody capsules. Lemon Scented Tea Tree Oil has medicinal properties similar to Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) as an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and antiseptic. Its high citral content gives it a nice lemon scent. It also contains Citronellal, Citronellol and Geraniol making it an effective insect repellant. Its potency and pleasant scent makes this native plant a great essential oil in aromatherapy. But because of its high potency, only tiny amounts are necessary. The oil is steam distilled from the leaves and twigs and is a clear colorless to yellow liquid .
