Gumix Agar Agar is a dried hydrophilic colloidal polygalactoside extracted from certain marine algae of the class Rhodophyceae. Commercially, two types of Agar are produced from Gelidium and Gracilaria species of this red algae. The basic seaweed raw material is gathered in many areas throughout the world. Mediterranean countries, South America, and the Far East are the main sources of Agar. Commercial Agar is processed by hot-water extractions from the cleaned and bleached seaweed, followed by freezing to allow for the removal of soluble salts and finally, filtration. The resulting extract is then dried and milled to the desired particle size.

AEP Colloids Xanthan Gum is a microbial polysaccharide produced by the organism Xanthomonas capestris. Through fermentation in a medium containing carbohydrates, a suitable nitrogen source, dipotassium hydrogen phosphate and appropriate trace metals the microorganism is grown. The gum itself is recovered by alcohol precipitation, dried and milled to specification. An Xanthan Gum solution shows typical pseudoplastic characteristics. These properties make it an effective suspending agent sufficient to suspend fine particles while preventing oil droplet separation. Heat stable in the presence of Potassium Chloride or other salts Xanthan Gum solutions are also stable at high pH levels when compared to other hydrocolloids.

Gumix Gum Tragacanth is the dried gum exuded by the stem elements of Astragalus gummifer, or other Asiatic species of Astragalus. This small, bushy perennial shrub is characterized by a relatively large tap root, which, along with the branches, is tapped for the gum. These plants grow wild in sections of the Asia Minor region. The gum exudes spontaneously from cuts made in the bark. The exudate is in the form of ribbons or flakes which become brittle upon drying. After collection, the gum is sorted by hand into various grades. The product is then cleaned, milled, and further processed to conform to sterility standards.
