"Kerley Ink is one of the oldest remaining privately-owned ink manufacturing companies in the United States. It was officially founded in 1947 by Raymond Ambrose Kerley, but the company's roots in the graphic arts go back considerably farther than that. As a matter of fact, they go all the way back to 1909, the year that the famous Indian Chief Geronimo died. In that same year, the then 16 year-old future founder of Kerley Ink took the New York Central railroad from Schenectady, New York to Chicago to seek his fortune. There he found work as a ""printer's devil"" near downtown Chicago in a shop named The Regensteiner Press. The rest, as they say, is history. Even back in the 1920's and 1930's, Ray was quick to understand the significance of the revolution in mass communication that was taking place in America. Ray saw during his career as a printing professional how the business of large-volume printing had been growing at a nearly explosive rate since the late 1800's. By the end of the 1920's, Ray Kerley had risen to the job of pressroom superintendent at The Cuneo Press in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. By that time, Ray realized that there were many new pressrooms being constructed all across the nation, and that there was a concurrent boom in the business of companies that supplied those new pressrooms. An opportunity presented itself: start an ink manufacturing company to supply printing and converting firms in Wisconsin. Ray left his job in Milwaukee in 1932 for the town of Menasha, Wisconsin to start up the Lake States Printing Ink Company in an abandoned brewery."

"Alden & Ott Printing Inks Company was founded by Joe Alden and Henry Ott in 1957 as an offset ink manufacturer. Like most small companies, they saw an opportunity and had a vision and a belief that they could do it better. Starting with just a few select printers, they developed better formulations with better performance and delivered them with better service. The company began to grow. Henry Ott, who was the company chemist, decided to pursue other interests. Joe Alden purchased his shares in the company and continued to grow the business. His passion for excellence was passed on to his four sons, Joe, Tom, John and Ted. In the early 80s the company formed a new printing blanket converting division to offer additional services to their customers. "American Coding and Marking Ink Co. Inc. was established in 1971 by Robert S. Sweet, a chemical specialties consultant, to fill a void left by the closure of a local ink manufacturing company. In 1986, Robert retired, and his son Thomas became president. Thomas began his career with ACMI in the production department in 1971. Over the years, he has worked in all operational areas. December 2013 brought exciting change as Thomas Sweet Jr. took over as President after 18 years with the company. The company's first products were inks and solvents used by supermarkets as well as general purpose marking and stenciling inks. In the early 1970's, when the government banned the use of FD&C Violet #1 in meat branding inks on short notice, ACMI was one of the companies asked to help supply reformulated meat branding inks, to meat packers who found themselves unable to use the ink they had on hand. In 2001 ACMI was the 1st company to register their meat branding inks with NSF. ACMI also discovered a great need for the development of inks for special applications. Throughout the country, companies were developing new products and processes and needed inks to meet new requirements. As the years progressed, ACMI developed a large number of special application inks, including high temperature resistant, epoxy, tree marking, IR transparent, optical scanner readable and many more. ACMI has also leveraged its manufacturing and R&D expertise to custom manufacture dye solutions, pigment dispersions and other non-colored chemical mixes, as well as manufacturing government specification rubber stamp ink for the GSA and stamp cancelation ink for the US Post Office."

"Chemline was founded in a garage in 1997 by John Pantanella. Three years before founding the company, he worked in the industry and gained the knowledge and experience needed while working nights and weekends on his own formulas that would eventually be Chemline’s first products. In the early days of the company, Chemline rented lab, office and warehouse space and shared a few key staff members with another coating manufacturer. While this company answered phones and handled logistics, John focused on selling and technically supporting the products. After 8 months, a steel tank manufacturer gave Chemline its first order, and word began to spread about the performance of Chemline products and exceptional service. With the help of a consulting firm, Chemline took the necessary steps to help with the burst in growth by hiring talented chemists and technical experts from the industry (all of which are still with us today). By adding key personnel, Chemline was positioned to grow again and over the next 7 years, producing $12M in revenue. The decision was made to purchase a building located in St Louis, MO and Chemline began manufacturing its own product in 2004. After attracting a few industry pros, Chemline began to grow again and made several successful acquisitions. In 2010 sales hit $17 M and Chemline was on a roll! We purchased more buildings, more equipment and one more business – TA Davies. TA Davies gave Chemline a footprint on the west coast and our message resonated with consumers. The California business grew from $1.5M to $10M in revenue in 4 years, and by 2015, Chemline had grown to $50M in revenue.
