AIREX® foams provide your sandwich structures with that much-sought-after combination of strength, stiffness and minimal weight. Besides thermal insulation on top. When used as a core material between two thin, stiff face sheets AIREX® foams create rigid sandwich structures that can be more than 50% lighter than conventional solutions.

BALTEK® is the only structural core material made of a natural, renewable resource – balsa wood. The balsa tree combines various special features: fast growth, low to medium density, and unique weight-specific mechanical properties.

BALTEK

BALTEK® SBC is a core material produced from controlled kilndried balsa wood in the ‘end-grain’ configuration with physical time to kiln control. 3A Composites Core Materials owns and manages several thousand hectares of FSC®-certified balsa wood plantations. Its cultivation from seedling to the tree ensures sustainable forest management and strict traceability. Documented and controlled time to kiln-drying makes SBC ideal for vacuum infusion. Own plantations enable 3A Composites to provide a continuous supply to industrial customers. BALTEK® SBC has exceptionally high strength and stiffness to weight ratios and achieves an excellent bond with all types of resins. It is an ideal core material for an extensive range of applications. All while being a renewable resource.

AIREX® C70 is a closed cell, cross-linked polymer foam that combines excellent stiffness and strength to weight ratios with superior toughness. It is non-friable, contains no CFC’s, has negligible water absorption, and provides an excellent resistance to chemicals. The fine cell structure offers an excellent bonding surface. Compatible with most resins and manufacturing processes AIREX® C70 is ideally suited as a core material for a wide variety of sandwich structures subjected to both static and dynamic loads. Thanks to its unique lightness (properties vs. density) C70 is the material of choice for applications where lightweight is a priority.

AIREX® PXw is a closed-cell, fiber reinforced polymer foam panel with a special formulation and very high mechanical properties. The sophisticated manufacturing process evenly distributes continuous glass fibers with woven fabrics throughout the foam. This generates a product with enhanced mechanical properties in flexure (bending), allowing it to be used with or without face sheets.AIREX® PXw is dimensionally stable, does not lose strength when wet, and is resistant to chemicals and high emperatures. It is ideally suited as a material for static applications requiring high stiffness or as a replacement for wood and plywood.

BALTEK® SB is a core material produced from select kiln-dried balsa wood in the ‘end-grain’ configuration. It has extremely high strength and stiffness to weight ratios, and achieves an excellent bond with all types of resins and adhesives. It is compatible with a variety of manufacturing processes and is resistant to temperature changes, or exposure to fire, or chemicals such as styrene. BALTEK® SB is an ideal core material for an extensive range of applications subjected to static or dynamic loads in service. All while being a renewable resource.

AIREX® PXc is a closed-cell, fiber reinforced polymer foam with very high mechanical properties ideally suited as core material for structurally loaded sandwich applications. The sophisticated manufacturing process evenly distributes continuous glass fibers throughout the foam generating a very consistent foam with enhanced mechanical properties especially in compression and shear. AIREX® PXc is dimensionally stable, has very low water absorption, and is resistant to chemicals and high temperatures. It is ideally suited as a core material for highly loaded sandwich structures or as a replacement for wood and plywood.

AIREX® T90 is a closed-cell, thermoplastic and recyclable polymer foam with excellent fire, smoke & toxicity (FST) properties. It has very good mechanical properties and an extraordinary resistance to fatigue, is chemically stable and has negligible water absorption. It is thermally stable during high temperature processing and post curing. T90 is designed for easy use with all resin systems and processing technologies. AIREX® T90 is the ideal core material for structural sandwich applications requiring high fire resistance.
