Admiral Maltings was founded by two long-time San Francisco brewing industry veterans, Ron Silberstein of ThirstyBear Brewing Company and Dave McLean of Magnolia Brewing Company, along with Curtis Davenport, who has an extensive background in organic farming and small batch malting. Together, we partner with California farmers to source quality grain and produce exceptional, hand-crafted malt. Our malt not only helps brewers make great beer, but it also enables them to operate more sustainably and to deepen their connection with local agriculture. Our malthouse is located in Alameda, California, and we're happy to call the Bay Area our home! Our 20,000 square-foot building was originally a World War II-era naval dry goods facility, but is now the site of the first floor malting facility in California since pre-Prohibition and California's only CCOF certified malting operation. Through our unique mix of modern technology and traditional practices, we aim to both unlock and capture California's terroir in our malt, offering a truly exceptional ingredient and experience.

Admiral Maltings California Spirit is our grain distilling malt. Its higher protein content and malting process provide robust alpha amylase content as well as the high diastatic power required by distillers when working with unmalted grains. California Spirit has a green malt, freshly mown grass flavor profile due to the low kilning temperature. Admiral malts are all made from grain grown on family farms in California in a sustainable manner.

Admiral Maltings Gallagher’s Best is a well - balanced pale ale malt. Aromas of multigrain crackers and hay. Toast with honey has a mildly sweet flavor.

Admiral Maltings Admiral Pisner (CCOF) is made from low protein barley that has been lightly kilned to produce a malt with delicate color and clean, vibrant flavor. Admiral Pils is an excellent choice for adding freshly kilned malt aroma to old world lagers, saisons, farmhouse ales, and other light - colored styles.
