AZ Technology AZ-2100-IECW

AZ Technology AZ-2100-IECW is an inorganic conductive white thermal control paint developed for use on spacecraft and satellite surfaces exposed to the deleterious effects of the space environment. It combines solar absorptance and thermal emittance properties similar to AZ-93 with electrical conductivity several orders of magnitude greater than currently available thermal control coatings. This paint is designed to be deposited onto large complex surfaces with minimal difficulty or environmental impact to form a non-specular white coating that maintains optical and electrical properties when exposed to the space environment.

Product Highlights

This spacecraft / satellite paint has been thoroughly tested in space, having been flown on the Optical Properties Monitor (OPM), the MIR MEEP POSA-I experiment and the Materials International Space Station Experiment (MISSE).

In addition, AZ-2100-IECW was used to coat the Multi-Mission Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator, or MMRTG of the Curiosity Mars Rover which began its mission on Mars in 2012. This power unit converts the heat from decaying plutonium-238 into electricity that the Curiosity rover needs to survive. See NASA Press Release.
