City Chemical Barium Manganate

Barium Manganate is a dark green powder, insoluble in water and has a specific gravity of 4.85. Barium Manganate (BaMnO4) is an inorganic compound used as an oxidant in organic chemistry. It belongs to a class of compounds known as manganates in which the manganese resides in a +6 oxidation state. Barium Manganate is a powerful oxidant and can be used in a wide variety of oxidation reactions. It oxidizes a number of functional groups efficiently and selectively: diols to lactones, alcohols to carbonyls, aromatic amines to azo-compounds, thiols to disulfides, benzylamine to benzaldehyde, hydroquinone to p-benzoquinone, etc…Barium Manganate is also used in ceramics and as a pigment.
