- Surface Preparation
Surfaces must be dry, clean and free of dust, dirt, grease, wax, oil, chalk, rust or any other contaminants that may prevent proper adhesion. New wood should be stained and sealed before finishing. Previously stained, painted or varnished surfaces should be thoroughly sanded and dusted clean before applying finish. Two coats are recommended. Sand lightly and dust between coats.
Warning! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. Lead is toxic. Exposure to lead dust can cause serious illness, such as brain damage, especially in children. Pregnant women should also avoid exposure. Wear a NIOSHapproved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop
