The word Frankincense comes from the term “franc encens,” which means quality incense in old French. Frankincense oleo-gum-resin is tapped from Boswellia trees by carefully making a small incision in the bark and allowing the exuded milky resins to harden. Tapping is done 2 to 3 times a year with the final taps producing the best resin, due to its higher aromatic terpenes, sesquiterpenes and diterpenes content. The Frankincense tree grows as a short shrub, to about 3-7 meters (10-23 feet) with an abundance of leaves and blossoms with white or pale pink flowers. F. Serrata is different from F. Camellia japonica oil is harvested from the seeds of the plant and traditionally known for its remarkable ability to retain moisture and penetrate into the deepest layers of the skin because its composition is similar to sebum the oil is naturally produced by human skin, delivering an immense amount of phytonutrients. This nourishing oil has been a treasured beauty secret by Japanese women and the ancient Geisha's for centuries, yet it is not well known in other areas of the world. It contains high levels of essential fatty acids, which help replenish the skin’s barrier and prevent water loss, protecting it from UV and environmental damage. Arnica comes from a perennial plant scientifically known as arnica montana. Arnica is a herb that grows mainly in Siberia and central Europe, as well as temperate climates in North America. The flowers of the plant are used in medicine. Arnica is most commonly used for pain caused by osteoarthritis, sore throat, surgery, and other conditions. Arnica is also used for bleeding, bruising, swelling after surgery, and other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. The fruit is a berry, consisting of a single large seed, surrounded by a buttery pulp. Sea buckthorn oil has become increasingly popular in natural skin care as it contains over 190 nutrients and phytonutrients. This nutritious berry has twelve times the amount of Vitamin C than oranges, just as much Vitamin E as wheat germ and three times more Vitamin A than carrots. Sea buckthorn also contains Omegas 3, 6, 9 and 7, along with many other nutrients and antioxidants. Seabuckthorn oil is composed of seed oil that is rich in essential fatty acids, linoleic and α-linolenic acids, and pulp oil that contains high levels of monounsaturated palmitoleic acid. Holy Basil Oil also known as Tulsi Oil is extracted through steam distillation from holy basil (Ocimum sanctum) an aromatic shrub in the basil family. Originating from India it is now grown in Australia, West Africa and some Middle Eastern Countries. Tulsi meaning the incomparible one it has been used throughout India in spiritual rituals and in Ayurvedic practices. It is a tonic for the body, mind and spirit and is grown for its aromatic, medicinal and spiritual purposes.

Chamaemelum nobilehas daisy-like white flowers and procumbent stems; the leaves are alternate, bipinnate, finely dissected, and downy to glabrous. The solitary, terminal flowerheads, rising 20–30cm (8–12in) above the ground, consist of prominent yellow disk flowers and silver-white ray flowers. The flowering time in the Northern Hemisphere is June and July, and its fragrance is sweet, crisp, fruity and herbaceous. Although the plant is often confused with German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla), its morphology, properties and chemical composition are markedly different. Roman chamomile (C. nobileL.) has a history of use in traditional medicine since the Middle Ages. The European cultivation of the plant started in England in the 16th century. The plant was listed first in the pharmacopeia of Würtenberg as a carminative, painkiller, diuretic and digestive aid. Joachim Camerarius was the first to discover and name chamaemelum nobile in 1598 in Rome. In Egypt, chamaemelum nobile was used as a symbol of dedication to their gods.

Juniper berries themselves are high in flavonoid and polyphenol antioxidants that have strong free radical scavenging abilities. Because they were seen as protectors of health — both emotional and physical health — during the Medieval period, juniper berries were believed to help ward off witches. In fact, for years French hospital wards burned juniper and rosemary to help protect patients against lingering bacteria and infections. A juniper berry is the female seed cone produced by the various species of junipers. It is not a true berry but a cone with unusually fleshy and merged scales, which gives it a berry-like appearance. The cones from a handful of species, especially Juniperus communis, are used as a spice, particularly in European cuisine, and also give gin its distinctive flavor. Juniper berries may be the only spice derived from conifers.

This plant is native to North and South America and has beautiful yellow flowers. Evening Primrose is also known as the Night Willow Herb, as its flowers open in the early evening. For centuries, this oil has been used by the Chinese and Native American cultures and in Ayurvedic medicine. Evening Primrose contains beneficial ingredients such as, Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA), Linoleic Acid (LA), both part of the Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids that are very moisturizing and extremely beneficial for the skin. Cedarwood Virginia (Juniperus virginiana) is native to the Eastern USA and Canada. Also known as Red Cedar and or Eastern Red Cedar, it thrives in high altitudes growing to about 100 feet. The aroma is grounding evoking a feeling of vitality and health. This species has been used for numerous issues, including applications for the skin for wounds, skin rashes, hair loss, eczema, acne, warts, fungal skin infections, and hemorrhoids. It can also be rubbed onto joints for rheumatism, and onto the chest for asthma. Eastern red cedar is also used as a fragrance for soaps, perfumes, and cosmetics.

Conventional or organic available Helianthus annuus, the common sunflower, is a large annual forb of the genus Helianthus grown as a crop for its edible oil and edible fruits (sunflower seeds). It grows up to 3m in height with coarsely hairy leaves and stems. The terminal flowers heads are large and showy, up to 5 in. across. A tall, coarse leafy plant with a hairy stem commonly branched in the upper half and bearing several or many flower heads, the central maroon disk surrounded by many bright yellow rays. The plant was first domesticated in the Americas. Wild Helianthus annuus is a widely branched annual plant with many flower heads. The domestic sunflower, however, often possesses only a single large inflorescence (flower head) atop an unbranched stem. The name sunflower may derive from the flower's head's shape, which resembles the sun, or from the false impression that the blooming plant appears to slowly turn its flower towards the sun as the latter moves across the sky on a daily basis. Sunflower seeds were brought to Europe from the Americas in the 16th century, where, along with sunflower oil, they became a widespread cooking ingredient. From there they were introduced to Australia where they are harvested predominantly in Queensland and NSW. However, there is an emerging industry in Western Australia, particularly in the Ord river catchment and in the south-west of the state as a summer rotational crop.

Hops may be best known for its use in the production of beer, but Hops Oil is a beautiful essential oil with multiple benefits and is a valued ingredient in the cosmetic industry. The Hops plant is a climbing perennial, most commonly grown in Europe. It was used extensively in traditional healing practices such as Chinese herbal medicine and Ayurveda. The oil is steam distilled from the flowers and cones. With a golden yellow to greenish color, and a rich, slightly spicy aroma, this oil is a valued addition to a myriad of products for its soothing, sedative, ant-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

There are two different varieties of chamomile you may come across; Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile or Anthemis nobilis) and German chamomile (Matricaria recutita or Chamomilla recutita) The two plants are slightly different in appearance. In addition, the chemical composition of their active ingredients differs slightly. Research has been done on both strains and the active ingredient most researched is chamazulene which is higher in German chamomile. German Chamomile (Matricaria recutica) is native to central and northern Europe. The herb usually grows near populated areas; it is annual, strongly aromatic, and has tall, hairless, erect, branching stems, with delicate feathery leaves and simple daisy-like white flowers on single stems. The flowers are smaller than those of Roman Chamomile. Matricaria Recutita Flower Oil is the essential oil distilled from the flowers of the plant which are dried prior to distillation. Although commonly known as 'German Chamomile Oil' it is in fact not grown in Germany, but in years past, large volumes grown in Hungary were sent to Germany for distillation.

Conventional or organic available Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) , also known as goat nut, deer nut, pignut, wild hazel, quinine nut, coffeeberry, and gray box bush, is native to South-western North America. The plant came to prominence in the late 1970s when scientists found that the liquid wax from the jojoba bean has a strikingly similar structure to the natural wax esters in human skin. The CSIRO introduced the plant to Australia in 1978 and selectively bred certain varieties especially suited to Australian conditions. Commercial plantations are now established across the country, including at Kalannie, Wagin, Geraldton and York in Western Australia. A shrubby bush which usually grows between 3-6 feet, though occasionally taller, the leaves are up to 1 ½” long, thick with a waxy gray-green coloration. The flowers are small with a green-yellow color and contain no petals. The plant is usually dioecious, either male or female, with both sexes needed to produce the fruit. Occasionally there are hermaphrodite plants but this is rare. The plants can live between 100-200 years. While often solitary in growth, jojoba’s can produce ground based shoots and form into thickets.

Early settlers often found native animals sleeping under the Kunzea shrub. Eventually, the plant was nicknamed “Tick Bush” after early settlers learned that native animals slept under the plant in an effort to rid themselves of ticks. The oil in the kunzea ambigua tree is not palatable and, as a result, many insects and native animals leave it alone. Today, scientists continue to study this amazing plant and are finding new properties, benefits and uses. It is known to relieve minor aches & pains, arthritis, nervous tension, stress and mild anxiety. Helps heal cuts, insect bites and bruises. It can also be used to treat itchy, flaky skin. Use Kunzea oil in vaporizers and baths to treat chest congestion. It can also be used in massage oil, potpourri and room deodorizers.

Conventional or organic available Yarrow has been known by several common names including Devil’s nettle, Old Man’s Pepper, Yarroway, Woundwort, Milfoil, Angel flower. The Achillea genus contains over 120 species and several subspecies. Achillea millefolium is widespread throughout Europe while A. lanulosa is common to North America although A. millefolium has been introduced as well. These two species are practically identical Achillea millefolium is native to Europe, Asia and has naturalized throughout North America as well as to other temperate zones of the world. It is a perennial herb with several erect stems arising from multiple rhizomes below the ground. The compound leaves are bright green and feathery. Numerous small, white to pink flower heads are borne in flat-topped clusters (Van Wyk and Wink, 2004). Yarrow is a venerable plant of ancient medicinal repute (Hatfield, 1971). According to legend, the Greek hero Achilles is said to have utilized Yarrow to stop the bleeding (styptic) of his soldiers as well as his own wounds during the Trojan War. It is thought that the genus name, Achillea, comes from this great warrior of Greek mythology. Roman centurions knew this plant under the name Herba militaris and later by ‘Soldier’s Woundwort’ and Carpenter’s Weed, reflecting its use for treating wounds. The species name millefolium is derived from the common name Milfoil which comes from the French mile feuille, meaning ‘1000 leaves’, referring to its feathery leaves, which are divided into thousands of tiny leaflets (Balick, 2014). Yarrow was formally named Achillea millefolium by Linnaeus in 1753 (Keller, 2014).

Conventional or organic available Melissa, or Lemon Balm, is a perennial herb from the mint family. It grows to about 60 cm (2 feet) and likes soil with a high iron content and has small serrated slightly hairy leaves. During summer, small white flowers full of nectar appear that are very attractive to bees. The oil is steam distilled from the leaves and flowers of the plant and has a sweet, fresh, citrus like fragrance. One of the most powerful essential oils in all of aromatherapy, Melissa essential oil is most significantly known for being an effective mood lifter. Because lemon balm uses are popular with the perfume and other industries and the plant has a very low oil yield, the distillation cost is extremely high making it a rare and expensive oil.

Palmarosa is a tall, herbaceous grass with long stems, aromatic leaves and flowering tops. It is native to Pakistan and India but is also cultivated in Indonesia, Brazil, the Comoro Islands, Africa and Madagascar. Palmarosa essential oil is steam-distilled from the fresh or dried grass which is harvested before the plant flowers. Palmarosa essential oil is also sometimes called Turkish Geranium, East Indian Geranium or Rose Geranium. Because of its rose-like aroma, Palmarosa essential oil has historically been used to adulterate Rose oil. It has also been used in traditional Indian medicine to treat fevers, infectious diseases, rheumatism and nerve pain. Palmarosa was also used to make incense blends in India, and was traded through the trading routes of India and Persia where it migrated for use in the West. Palmarosa essential oil is widely used for moisturizing skin. It effectively treats skin problems such as psoriasis, boils, eczema, acne and other similar problems. This oil is widely known for its therapeutic benefits and is widely appreciated among people for its effective properties. This oil is usefulness in cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Aromatically, Palmarosa Essential Oil has a slight similarity to Geranium Essential Oil and can sometimes be used as an aromatic substitute.

The oil is extracted by steam distillation of the flowers, preferably when picked very early in the morning and can take up to 18 hours for the distillation process to complete. This fragrant oil has a rich floral scent and is highly prized in the perfume industry and is a favorite in cosmetic products. It has a middle/base note. As the steam distillation begins for Ylang Ylang the very first hour or two the oil that is distilled is what is called Ylang Ylang Extra. This is considered the best for use in perfumery and aromatherapy. During the next few hours they will extract in order and by designated amounts of time Ylang Ylang I, II and III, collecting the distilled oil from each time fraction for the various grades of Ylang Ylang oil. As the distillation process continues less oil is extracted until after 12-18 hours all oil has been extracted. Ylang Ylang Complete is either the total of all the oil collected during the whole distillation process or a blend of each of the 4 fractions as they were distilled then blended together in various proportions to give a certain smell quality.
