- Recommended Uses
This paint is suitable for use on wood, metal, ceramic, glass, canvas and more. Dorothy Mae is not recommended for use on walls and floors.
- Surface Preparation
Surface must be clean, dry and free of dust, sanding dust, dirt, grease, oil, mold, mildew, lose wood fibers, flaking paint, chalk, soap residue, wax, corrosion, laitance, and all other contaminants or foreign matter that might impede adhesion. Existing peeled or checked paint should be scraped and sanded to a sound surface. Remove any wax by lightly wiping the surface with mineral spirits.
Warning
- Removing existing coating from surface by sanding, scraping or other mechanical means may create dust or particles containing lead, a hazardous substance. Avoid creating and breathing dust and other debris.
- Thoroughly clean all surfaces before and after painting. Breathing or eating lead-containing dust or debris can cause health problems, especially in children and pregnant women. Controlling exposure to lead or other hazardous substances requires the use of proper protective equipment, such as a properly fitted (niosh approved) respirator and proper containment and cleanup.
- Application
- Coverage - Will cover approximately 100 square feet per quart on smooth surfaces.
- Conditions - Use in a well-ventilated area where temperature is between 50° & 90°F (10° & 32°C) and humidity is below 85% to ensure proper drying PRIMING Priming is not required for most surfaces. For excellent coverage on bare wood and treated wood surfaces, use a H-I-S primer. Thinning is not required.
- Application - Stir each container thoroughly before using and occasionally while applying to keep uniform consistency and color. Apply evenly with a quality nylon/polyester paint brush. Roller and spray application are not recommended. Use light-even brush strokes to ensure even paint flow and a smooth finish. Avoid excessive brushing which reduces film thickness.
- Dry & Recoat - Dry and recoat times are based on a 70°F (21°C) temperature and 50% relative humidity. Allow more time in cooler temperatures. Paint will dry to touch in approximately 30 minutes, to handle in 1 hour and can be recoated after 2-4 hours. The finish coat is fully dry in 2-4 hours. A protective clear topcoat or wax can be applied for added protection. Apply according to manufacturer application instructions.
- Distressing - Paint can be distressed if desired. To distress, lightly sand the surface with a fine to medium grit sanding sponge or sandpaper. Paint must be dry before sanding.
- Cleanup - Clean spills and spatters promptly. Clean hands, tools, and spray equipment immediately after use with soap and warm water. Dispose of used paint and waste in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
