White kidney beans are obtained from the plant Phaseolus vulgaris. Kidney beans contain a proteinacous inhibitor known as phaseolamin that acts as an alpha amylase inhibitor thus preventing carbohydrates from being absorbed in the small intestines. By acting as a natural starch blocker, white kidney beans aggregates the process of weight loss. White kidney beans are an excellent source of soluble and insoluble high dietary fiber. Besides a high fiber content, significant quantities of folate and magnesium in white kidney beans help lower the homocysteine level which is an independent factor for heart attack.
