    Applications & Uses

    Typical Applications

They are additives that can be used as fire barrier fillers in thermosetting and thermoplastics, paints, adhesives, fillers, sealants cables, flooring and other uses. Paint containing the product has passed BS 476 parts 6 & 7. M&CT 1006, 1007, 1016 8008 are not flame retardants, do not prevent initial combustion and will not prevent flame spread.

    Process

As the temperature rises the glass blend melts, flows and sets hard. The lower melt temperature is in the region of 400’C and the setting action occurs at about 750’C and remains hard to over 1000’C. These melt temperatures and setting points are dependent on the blend used and the material into which they are added. An integral fire barrier is formed in situ within the host material which is effective at the point of fire penetration. A hard, glacious char is formed which acts as an insulate in its own right. The conversion process absorbs heat, reduces smoke and toxic fume emission and is halogen free.

    Regulatory & Compliance

    RoHS directive

With reference to Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27th January 2003 on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Our products do not contain any lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium.

    Technical Details & Test Data

Titration of Leachate using 0.1N Hydrochloric acid

The leachate is produced by covering the material in water.

    1006 & 8008 Most alkaline
    1007 Less alkaline
    1016

    Almost neutral under these conditions

Titration results can be important when the material is used with certain polymers, especially where alkali can accelerate reactions.

    • The material is milled to the required fineness ~ this can be varied for specific customer preferences.
    • It is tested and certified as compliant with our specification.

    Packaging & Availability

    Packaging Type
    Packaging

It is sieved and packaged. We produce 1,000, 800 or 500 kg bulk bags, and 25kg bags, either as stitched bags or valve sacks.

    Storage & Handling

    Shelf Life

Unchanged by time. May clump under pressure in store, quickly returns to powder if broken up. Nominal shelf life quoted as 2 years from date of production but should remain unchanged while the packaging remains intact.
