Aquaban 100 is a two component cementitious coating for waterproofing concrete or masonry surfaces, interior or exterior, above or below grade. AQUABAN 100 penetrates surface pores and interacts with free lime to create an integral mechanical and chemical bond and a dense waterproof coating. Once applied, its unique chemical action forms insoluble complex polysilicates from the soluble salts found in cementitious materials. As this integral bonding takes place within the pores of the substrate, a waterproof shield is formed which seals the inner structure of the treated surface. The dense plasterlike coating remaining on the surface of the substrate acts as an additional water barrier. AQUABAN 100 prevents intrusion of water, yet allows entrapped moisture to be released.

Identification & Functionality

Composition & Materials
  • AQUABAN 100 is a two component material.
  • Component 1: A special, dry mixture of portland cement, finely graded mineral filler and a proprietary chemical additive.
  • Component 2: AQUABAN 100 liquid (emulsion).

Limitations
  • AQUABAN 100 as a waterproof coating, will only bridge static (non-moving) cracks less than 0.75 mm (1/32"). It is not a "crack-filler" coating. Any flowing water present must be stopped before applying AQUABAN 100.
  • For best results use AQUABAN 200 (see separate data sheet). AQUABAN 100 is not a flexible membrane. It will not bridge dynamic cracks.
Coverage

22.7 kg (50lbs) unit covers approximately 10 sq. m. (100 sq.ft.) of dry approximately 1.5 mm (1/16") thick coat. Actual thickness will vary due to the porosity of the surface.

Applications & Uses
  • Saturate masonry surface with water immediately prior to application. Using masonry or other large stiff bristle brush, apply aquaban 100 by working material into surface pores at the uniform rate of 100 sq.Ft. Per 50lb. Pail. Product must be worked into surface pores for proper result. If material becomes too thick for efficient application, add up to 2 pints water, one pint at a time, to 50lb. Of mixture to restore creamy texture.
  • Proper aquaban 100 treatment requires a minimum 1 coat application at the rate of 100 sq.Ft. Per unit. Two coat application at the rate of 200 sq.Ft. Per unit is recommended. Second coat may be applied after first coat has set, (usually about 90 minutes). Be sure to wet surface prior to second coat. If unusually great hydrostatic pressure and seepage exists, or is anticipated, the application of a third coat may be required.
  • Surface preparation - surface must be free of dirt, previously applied paints or sealers, and any loose material. Wire brushing, sandblasting or acid washing may be required. If acid washing occurs, surface must be repeatedly flushed with water to remove all trace of acid. Patch, repair and level extremely rough surfaces using masonry mortar or speedcrete with aquaban 300 additive (see separate data sheet). Important: surface must be wet prior to and during application. Keep surface moist following the application by mist spraying water or covering it with plastic sheet if necessary.
  • Mixing - open aquaban 100 pail. Thoroughtly shake enclosed jar until all solid matter has liquified and a uniform emulsion has formed. Combine contents of jar with 7 l (6 qts) of clean water. Rinse jar with mixing water to remove all of the additive. Slowly add powder to the solution of liquid additive and water in the pail and mix thoroughly to achieve a creamy slurry. Material must be applied within one hour of mixing.
  • Guarantee - aquaban 100 is guaranteed to stop water seepage when mixed and applied according to directions on a properly prepared surface, except when leaks are due to a cracking of the substrate material itself. This guarantee is for a period of 2 years from the date of purchase, or the material will be replaced. This warranty is in lieu of any and all warranties expressed or implied. Pennkote assumes no liability for incidental or consequential damage due to defective material. Pennkote products, when applied in accordance with manufacturers instructions, will give years of satisfactory service. The user shall determine the suitability of this product for his intended use.
  • Maintenance - aquaban 100 coatings are virtually maintentance free and non-staining. Surfaces may be cleaned with detergents and water.

Technical Details & Test Data

Performance Data
  • To achieve the desired waterproofing properties, AQUABAN 100 is applied to clean, dampened concrete or masonry surfaces, as follows:-
  • Exterior Applications: AQUABAN 100, applied in 2 coats to the face exposed to water penetration (positive side), will effectively prevent passage of water under maximum 0.077 MPa pressure (11 psi). AQUABAN 100, applied in 3 coats, will prevent passage of water up to 0.3 Mpa (44 psi).
  • Interior Applications: AQUABAN 100, applied in 2 coats to the face opposite possible water penetration (negative side), will effectively prevent passage of water under maximum 0.026 MPa pressure (3.5 psi). AQUABAN 100 applied in 3 coats will effectively prevent passage of water up to 0.154 MPa (22 psi).
